Why was the car I loved the most my £400 1998 Toyota Starlett with 185000 miles on the clock?🚗 Despite since owning cars much more modern, decades newer, this car holds a special place in my heart. Why? -Reliability - Out of the four cars I have owned in my life, this is the only one that never broke down. -Adaptability - They didn't have bluetooth in 1998, so, the car needed an upgrade. I put in a brand new £20 radio that took me under 10 minutes to install. Tunes were pumping. -Perseverance - 185k miles, 6 different different owners, an indicator that was duct taped in, covered in rust and still passed MOT first time? Admirable. Three years later instead of looking for these qualities in cars, I am looking for these qualities in graduates. Sound like you? A depreciating asset? A financial liability? An unnecessary luxury? For me, this is the core motivation I have had to strive and achieve success in the corporate world. I knew motorcycles were my thing since I was about 9 years old. This is an expensive pastime pursuit from the actual machine itself to the maintenance to all the allied costs of riding gear, petrol and a myriad of small-big things. This is also something that my naive pre-teen self didn't have the tiniest iota of realisation about back then. I was fortunate enough that my parents bought me my first motorcycle but even then I knew the real sense of achievement would only come when I bought one myself. The 6 months of struggle I went through after B.Tech just to land my first professional engagement gave me a generous glimpse of what was in store for me. But the hunt for those gorgeous headlights at the end of the tunnel was my only constant motivation. Through every successful task completed, every salary credit, every new organization and every new role, the strongest emotion I felt was that I was inching closer to the 2-wheeled goal. It's been close to 21 years since I started dreaming of this day, 11 years since I started laying the groundwork, 6 years since I've been putting in the effort and 20 May 2024, is when it finally happened. With this achievement, the next phase of striving for my first superbike has officially commenced. P.S. Piaggio Vehicles Pvt. Turning Setbacks into Success: Navigating Career Challenges and Embracing Growth In November 2022, I was overwhelmed after signing a contract for a thesis opportunity at Volvo Cars starting January 2023, with a full-time role set for August 2023. All my hard work and preparations over the past 2 years had led to this opportunity to start my career at Volvo Cars. As I approached the end of my thesis in December 2023 and was focused on its completion, correction, approval, and presentation, I received a shocking email: "We cannot offer you employment due to a hiring freeze at Volvo Cars." This shattered my hopes, leaving me in disbelief and despair. All my hard work and dedication seemed to culminate in this devastating news. My aspirations to start my career with Volvo Cars were dashed, and I found myself at a crossroads, unsure of the next steps. I was left amidst: - Visa processing delays of over 7 months. - Lost the opportunity to finish the final works for completing my degree. - Uncertainty regarding income, stay, and work permit since my contract was terminated. The Christmas break of 2023 was the toughest period I've faced, taking a toll on my mental health. Nevertheless, in 2024, I resolved to refocus and seek new opportunities. In less than 6 months, I achieved significant milestones: - Completed all degree requirements, received my certificates and got graduated. - Resolved my visa process after 8 months of waiting. - Reunited with my parents after 31 months. - Earned a Master's degree. - Obtained Swedish B Driving License. - Enhanced my programming skills in Python, MATLAB, Simulink, Git, etc. - Finished 5+ technical courses and certifications relevant to my field. - Obtainined an IT Automation Certificate from Google. Despite these achievements, landing a full-time role at this time is quite challenging. Its hard to notice many "Junior" roles demand 4+ years of experience, making it nearly impossible to secure positions. In addition to this, at the end of the day its genuinely aggravating to held myself accountable for not being able to find a role even after such improvements. So I kindly request all Recruiters and Managers reaching across this post to provide their valuable guidance on how and what steps can I take to stand out in the current job market, despite the challenges posed by experience requirements. I particularly love telling people that almost 25% of our team in Malaysia is made up of women, which I learned in Milan last year at the EX30 launch when I met one of our leaders in Malaysia who told me what an important and growing role they are playing. I also think an important tip for thriving at Volvo Cars is applicable at any large enterprise company: 🤝 Do not underestimate the importance and benefit to you AND the company of carving out time for networking with anyone and everyone you can beyond your team or department, from the lobby ambassadors to senior leaders. Newcomers have a unique opportunity to become bridge builders by uncovering synergies and connecting people with each other who have been here for years but may not have otherwise met. ☕️ Don't wait to have your ducks in a row or to feel you know everything before reaching out beyond your team. It's important to take advantage of being new, when you can be courageous and curious in seeking information about how things work and reaching out proactively for a Swedish "fika" to learn what people do and how different parts of the business operate. Your new perspective might just generate ideas for new efficiencies and processes. Wondering what to do or say to get started? It can be as simple as saying, "I was told in onboarding that networking is important here. 🚗 **A Blessed Day at Audi** 🚗 Today was a blessed day! No sales again, but I’m definitely learning a lot about the brand and the customer base 😉 🌟 **Building Connections:** - Met a successful comedy club owner who invited me to see local talent. We test drove an Audi A3 convertible and discussed his favorite vacation spot in South Florida. Despite building great rapport, he left right after the test drive, asking for an email with the price and warranty info. What could I have done differently? What would you have done? - Met an electrical engineer from Serbia who has worked with Mercedes, BMW, Tesla, and Audi. He shared insights on business opportunities in the U.S. and the value of the freedoms and choices we sometimes take for granted. He’s moving to the States in a month and is interested in buying a vehicle then. 🔑 **Key Takeaways:** - Luxury car customers often see their purchases as wants rather than needs. Five months in. At Mon Motors Group, and a long way to go with what we want to achieve. In the past five months, we have acquired another business. We doubled in size overnight. A Marketing Team to build; a Vision to share; a Strategy to formulate and implement. It has been busy. I can say that. Most importantly, having the chance to contribute, and working hard on it with focus, you start to see progress being made, and as a consequence I am becoming more passionate about what will come. As we close October, seeing the strides we have made in Used Cars through the efforts of everyone involved and buying into this strategy, is definitely one to celebrate.
