Fire safety equipment maintenance. Last week was a week of businesses not maintaining their fire safety equipment and the fire logbook magically disappearing. Fire Safety Order, Article 17 - Maintenance - the responsible person must ensure that the premises and any facilities, equipment and devices provided in respect of the premises are subject to a suitable system of maintenance and are maintained in an efficient state, in efficient working order and in good repair. Some businesses seem to think by installing fire safety equipment in a building is a tick in the box and no further actions required.......... Think again! As a responsible person for a facility you must ensure all fire safety equipment is appropriately tested and records maintained. 🔥 Part 2 of our Fire Safety Tips 🔥 Knowing how to properly use a fire extinguisher is crucial in any environment, whether at home, in the office, or other establishments. The PASS technique is an easy-to-remember method that can save lives and property: Pull the pin, Aim at the base of the fire, Squeeze the handle, and Sweep from side to side. It ensures the extinguisher is used efficiently to control a small fire before it spreads, providing critical time until professional help arrives. Don’t forget to regularly check your fire extinguishers to ensure they are in good condition. Always inspect the pressure gauge and verify the expiration date to avoid any malfunction during emergencies. Keeping your fire safety equipment up to date is just as important as knowing how to use it!
