As l reflect on the rare privilege to participate in the 2024 Environmental Joy Conference organised by the Yale Centre for Environmental Justice recently, I feel more honoured and empowered to serve as a sustainable development professional and an Environmental justice advocate and practitioner. Some of the takeaways I learned from the conference includes but not limited to the following: the need to create synergy and bring all the incredible minds across the globe to chart a road map for our common future and a hospitable planet, that grief and joy are connected, that we're held together by love that's bigger than ourselves, that there's need to acknowledge and call to mind all those who have helped us come this far, that environmental justice communities create joy, harmony and innovation, the necessity of working together leaving our egoes behind. The list goes on and on. For me, what struck me most was the level of vibration, enthusiasm and commitment exhibited by two of the panelists viz: Richard Moore and Angaangaq Anggakkorsuaq just to name but a few throughout the conference. Kudos to all elderly folks who inspired us in this conference. Indeed, it was a blessing having you guys around. By this, l think it's a clarion call for the older generation to transfer their expertise, and experience to nurture the younger generation in the environment discourse. I envisage alot of good stuffs evolving from this synergy and collaboration.. Food for thought. On this note, I wish to challenge my colleague youth to humble ourselves and learn under the feet of these versatile and knowledgeable senior citizens. Before l let go of you, remember this quote from Richard Moore: " WE'RE MOVING FORWARD, BUT LET'S MOVE FORWARD TOGETHER". Cheers to everyone! Andrews Author.

Hampton Roads ASPA is happy to present today at the 2024 ASPA Annual Conference, which will be held at the Hyatt Regency in Minneapolis, MN, from 12:30 to 1:45 PM. Pew Research Center (2022) describes public trust in government as near historic lows, with two out of ten Americans declaring they trust the government to do what is right ‘just about always” (2%) or “most of the time” (19%). Lack of public trust is a harbinger of a fading democracy and a societal structure in need of repair. According to Gerardo Berthin (2022), democratic resilience is the “ability of the democratic government ecosystem to self-correct.” This self-correction requires public administrators with the tools to create equitable spaces, facilitate power sharing, promote ethical leadership, and practice responsible stewardship of natural resources. Hampton Roads-ASPA explores the importance of prioritizing sound governance principles of ethical leadership, environmental sustainability, diversity, equity, and inclusion in promoting democratic resilience and building better communities.

My thoughts on the Pact for the Future:
On 22 September 2022, world leaders adopted the Pact for the Future – an outcome document from the United Nations Summit of the Future. The Pact outlines a path to accelerate progress towards meeting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030. Animals, while not mentioned in the Pact, are key enablers and drivers of what it sets out to achieve.
