After ditching the colorful template, I thought the solution was to list everything I’d ever done. 💼 If I wrote down all my tasks, I figured something would stick, right? Wrong. 🙃 My resume ended up looking like a novel—too long, too much, and no focus. Here’s the deal: Quality over quantity. Don’t just list tasks; focus on the ones that showcase your skills and impact. Hiring managers don’t have time to read every detail—they want to know what makes you stand out. Trim the fat, focus on your value, and let your achievements shine. Looking to cut the clutter from your resume? Let’s talk! I was going through an old presentation I did 2 years ago for an organization in Vancouver. It covered tips on how to make a solid resume. Going through it I found this little nugget. When speaking with clients, I use the below Super Mario analogy often to explain how to write "contribution-focused" points in your resume. Now, I will say, some roles/companies make it hard to write what you have contributed (lack of data and analytics for your role). My advice is to always track your own performance and build your personal metrics that relate to your role and the company's goals. Don't wait until your manager tells you to do this. This way you can point to them during performance reviews and more importantly build your resume and make yourself more "Sellable" in the job market. I hope this helps! #marketvalue #Resumewriting #jobsearch

𝗣𝗦𝗔: 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘂𝗺𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗯𝗹𝘆 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸. It's like wars are being fought every day about how to write the "perfect resume." I've seen knock-down-drag-out fights in the comments section over all sorts of stuff. Like, which of these is most important? ▶️ Summary ▶️ Skills ▶️ Work Experience ▶️ Education ▶️ Certifications ▶️ Infographics ▶️ Keywords ▶️ Design ▶️ File format ▶️ Document length ▶️ The order everything shows in. And on and on and on. But do you know what my experience is with clients, recruiters, and hiring managers? 𝗡𝗢𝗡𝗘 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁. So what is, then? 𝗪 𝗛 𝗜 𝗧 𝗘 𝗦 𝗣 𝗔 𝗖 𝗘 Seriously. People can only handle so much cognitive load in one document, especially when they are reading a ton of them. When people get a long resume with paragraphs, small font, and tiny margins, you know what happens? Their eyes glaze over They stop reading They move on to the next person It's true. If your resume does not grab the interest of a human, it doesn't MATTER how the ATS Gods have scored it. You will almost certainly lose out. If your resume lacks whitespace, go fix it, STAT. You'll be glad you did. ❓❓❓ 𝗗𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝘄𝗵𝗶𝘁𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 #𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘂𝗺𝗲? ------ Repost ♻️ if you found this helpful All my posts on one page at #workshouldfeelgood Click my name, follow me, and ring my 🔔 to get notified when I post. #careergrowth #jobsearch #careercoaching #leadership

I'm not getting noticed despite my impressive resume. Well, in that case, your resume might need a makeover. Let me break this down! Your resume isn’t just a list of experiences It’s a powerhouse that should make employers sit up and take notice! Here’s how to truly stand out: → Start Strong with Action Words ↳ Words like “managed,” “developed,” and “implemented” show leadership and initiative, not just a passive role. → Be Specific and Quantify Your Achievements ↳ Manage a team of 100 and boost profits by 50%, rather than "manage a team efficiently".Numbers make your impact clear. → Choose Your Words Wisely ↳ Powerful verbs like “restructured” and “boosted” are more compelling than “organized” or “increased.” → Avoid Overused Clichés ↳ Terms like “goal-oriented” and “team player” are vague. Be precise and showcase what makes you unique. Your resume should show your value and make you irresistible to hiring managers. So, next time you’re updating your resume, remember: make every word count, be specific, and ditch the clichés. P.S. What’s Wrong with My Resume? 🤔 I’ve heard this question countless times: "What’s wrong with my resume?" And the truth is, it’s not always about the format, the font, or even the list of experiences. It’s about the story you’re telling. Here’s the reality—your resume isn’t just a document; it’s your professional narrative. It should communicate not just what you’ve done, but why it mattered. Too often, we list tasks instead of impact, roles instead of purpose. Imagine you’re reading your resume as someone else. Does it make you feel something? Does it clearly convey your unique value? If not, it’s time to rewrite your story. Here are a few tips to help you tell that story: 1. Turn Duties into Achievements 📈 2. Showcase Your Why 🎯 3. Highlight Growth and Learning 📚 4. Use Powerful Action Verbs 🚀 5. Tailor Your Resume to the Job 🎨 Remember, companies aren’t just hiring skills—they’re hiring people with a vision, with values that align with their own. Your resume should reflect not just where you’ve been, but where you’re going. 🚀 Every word counts. Make them matter. #CareerGrowth #JobSearch #Leadership #SimonSays #YoungProfessionals

𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐤 𝐒𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐈𝐬 𝐀𝐥𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐒𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐭? 𝐍𝐨𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐮𝐦𝐞. What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you hear “One-Page Resume Rule”? 👉 If you’re trimming down your achievements just to fit this rule, think again. 📊 𝐃𝐢𝐝 𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐊𝐧𝐨𝐰? "I don't need help to improve my resume." This statement doesn't make any sense. Others' expertise changed everything for me. And boosted my interviews with no 2nd-guessing. Here's how: 1. Engaged with a career coach. — Identified weak areas in my resume. — Developed ways to highlight my strengths. — Aligned my expertise to serve my "what's next." → Increased callbacks from applications. 2. Highlighted my unique value proposition. — Identified and expressed my unique value. — Refined and prominently featured on resume. — Translated unique expertise into selling points. → Positioned me clearly as the ideal candidate. 3. Crafted a results-oriented resume. — Demonstrated impact vs responsibilities. — Quantified results in non-quantitative roles. — Used powerful, initiative-driven action verbs. → Elevated my resume into a narrative of success. Not everyone needs to hire a career coach. But most folks who land jobs had some help. PS) Has asking for help ever changed your life?

Your resume isn’t just a list. it’s your value pitch. A client came to me, frustrated by the silence. He had the experience, but his resume? Just titles and tasks—no story, no impact. The truth? Hiring managers don’t need a laundry list; they need to see how you solve problems. Here’s what we changed: • Highlighted achievements over responsibilities. • Quantified impact—like boosting sales by 20% or leading teams. • Reframed roles to show growth, positioning him for leadership. With these shifts, doors opened. He went from feeling invisible to standing out—and the interviews followed. Ask yourself: • Does your resume show how you add value? • Are achievements front and center? • Is it written with your next role in mind? Remember: Your resume is your pitch. It should tell the story of your growth and make it clear why you’re the right fit. P.S. Ready to transform your resume?
