Inheritance Tax (IHT) is no longer just an issue for the very affluent. Many ordinary families may find themselves handing over an unprecedented portion of their estates to the taxman. This shift results from years of house price growth, inflation and stagnant tax thresholds. Effective IHT planning is a careful balancing act, but essential in ensuring you can live comfortably while also considering how to pass on your wealth in the most tax-efficient way. 👉 Inheritance Tax (IHT) Inheritance Tax may increase either through higher rates or reduced tax-free thresholds (currently £325,000). There’s even speculation of a “double death tax,” combining CGT with IHT, potentially pushing the total tax rate to 54%. My take: if we can convert our wealth into an area that not only will protect and insure our money, but grow organically and tax free (BLT). There are also IHT benefits to owning gold. Reach out and I can help you understand more.

The tax position on death can be extremely harsh for any individual who has a net Estate value of more than £500,000 or for couples of more than £1 million. With high property prices and frozen allowances, this affects many families and this number is predicted to grow. However, it is not just about tax, as many people want to leave their affairs in order and with clear legacy goals attached. Our animated video explores the subject by explaining that Estate Planning is different from Inheritance Tax Planning, and how the two interact. What would you rather? A 100% chance of your beneficaries paying 40% Inheritance Tax on your taxable estate (e.g knowing they are left with 60%) or taking some investment risks/parting ways/spending capital to potentially reduce this burden for your beneficiaries? All arguably require advice and some form of psychological coaching. Former Labour Chancellor Roy Jenkins once described Inheritance Tax as "a voluntary levy paid by those who distrust their heirs more than they dislike the Inland Revenue."
