New method of construction in the frame!
We know you often hear from us about the benefits of timber frame construction, which include reducing build times by up to eight weeks, cutting waste and lowering the amount of site labour required - all of which can drive down timescales, costs and deliver a faster return on investment.
However, you do not have to take our word for it. This week we hear from Managing Director of AMETHYST HOMES LIMITED, Richard Bass. The company recently used our new FastBuild timber frame system to build 45 new properties at Vallum Heights, in Newcastle.
Richard said: "This is the first time Amethyst Homes has used timber frame construction and the results have been promising. There is some education required at the front end - to ensure site staff understand the process - as traditionally, in England, the majority of developments are masonry builds. Kirkwood Timber Frame helped support this process and were available throughout with any queries we had.
"As a developer, we are committed to exploring new methods of construction that not only offer time and cost savings but lessen our impact on the environment.
"By using timber frame at Vallum Heights, we have been able to reduce build time by up to four weeks, we would anticipate this would increase as our teams become more familiar with the process. We have reduced our carbon footprint and delivered more energy efficient properties, which will reduce net energy consumption by over 25%, providing significant savings on energy bills for our homebuyers."
Timber frame panels for Vallum Heights were made in Kirkwood’s state of the art manufacturing facility, using the latest machinery in a semi-automated process. The structures are delivered to the site where a crane lifts the panels, floor, and roof into place usually within a single day, allowing following on trades to complete the build in double quick time.
