This past year was a busy one at the IC2Institute, where we focused on several projects related to AI and its health-related applications. Currently, we are thinking deeply about the responsible application of AI, the role that AI can play in empowering a wide-range of stakeholders in healthcare, and the use of AI to mitigate health disparities. It has been a productive year at the IC2 Institute at The University of Texas at Austin. The Year of AI has been filled with research projects, calls for funded research proposals, new initiatives with NSF Engines and Permian Energy Development Lab and the Hyvelocity Hydrogen Hub with the Energy Institute, The University of Texas at Austin, as well as community studies in Uvalde, TX and other rural communities. It is my firm belief that if healthcare does not embrace AI and find the gumption to leverage this innovation, that population health will continue to be held back. From healthcare regulation to recruitment and retention of providers/administrators to direct patient care. Find the smart people, pay them well, be innovative, see problems as challenges, push for change, lead with authenticity, pay it forward. Just some of the ways I believe AI can help people get the care they need where and when they need it most.

The role of AI in the healthcare space is not a new one, though the amount of attention and prevalence has grown exponentially in the last 18 months. The impact on our industry continues to be profound, but HOW companies are implementing #ai & #generativeai is as important as what they are doing with it.

According to the Harvard Business Review, the adoption of AI in healthcare is being driven by exponential growth in health data, the broad availability of computational power, and foundational advances in machine learning techniques. AI has already demonstrated the potential to create value by reducing costs, expanding access, and improving quality.

🌟 This week, Forbes and The Wall Street Journal published articles that highlighted the challenge of acquiring enough data to fuel AI, with a focus on consumer or creative outputs. However, the challenge exists across consumer and enterprise use cases. Lynx.MD CEO, Omer Dror emphasized the critical role of Big Data in healthcare, MedTech, and Life Sciences. Without substantial real-world data, AI models risk inherent flaws.
