ICA Miami's Young Collectors Board (YCB) comprises the next generation of international art supporters and is dedicated to stewardship of work by emerging artists. During #MiamiArtWeek, the group voted to acquire an exciting new work at New Art Dealers Alliance alongside ICA Miami's curators and the YCB co-chairs. Kim Farkas is a Paris-based artist of Peranakan origin—the Indigenous people of Chinese descent born in Singapore—whose work is characterized by a hybridity of technological and organic forms. In the artist’s richly illuminated wall sculpture "23-28" (2023), the biomorphic and biographical combine to engage with her heritage. Farkas frequently references the ceremonial practice of symbolic offerings to forebears and deities, observed across diasporic Asian communities, and layers both ritualistic materials alongside consumer goods in his work. Interested in making a significant contribution to Miami’s art scene? Join our Young Collectors Board today! https://lnkd.in/eDrD4KP3 ——— Kim Farkas, "23-28," 2023. 🚨 UPCOMING EXHIBITION 🚨 We’re incredibly excited to announce The Art of Subversion. This first-of-its-kind exhibition will feature a provocative blend of street art, tattoo-inspired art, and functional glass art. The term ‘subversion’ is defined as “the undermining of the power and authority of an established system or institution.” With that, the goal is to initiate a broader conversation about how artwork is understood in our contemporary world. For decades, street art was seen as no more than vandalism, and only recently has it gained recognition for its cultural value. Similarly, while the traditional medium of tattoo art has been around for centuries, it has only been in the last few years that our society has shaken the stigma associated with the art form. The same cannot exactly be said for functional glass art, more simply known as ‘sm💨king 🅿️ipes’… I mean, I can’t even type the words normally here without getting this post flagged!! As with tattoos, the art of 🅿️ipe making and the medium of glass blowing has a profound history, yet it is an outsider in the art world. We hope this exhibition can help shift our collective perspective of these underrepresented forms of artistic expression. ••• WHEN: Friday, September 13, 5 - 8 PM WHERE: Rehs Contemporary 20 West 55th Street NYC ••• #streetart #tattooart #art #arte #contemporaryart #functionalglass #rehscontemporary #artexhibit #artexhibition #newyorkgallery

"The art tribe"? "Le Sirenuse?" Really, Katya Kazakina? “Asia pumped up prices,” a New York–based adviser who believes that Party’s work will stand the test of time told me. “It’s a mass movement into one artist. Then a parallel mass pull back. It hurts the market.” Masterworks has been one significant player, spending $9.7 million on five paintings by Party between December 2022 and December 2023, according to regulatory filings reviewed by the Art Detective. I asked Masterworks about its outlook on the Party market, and its CEO Scott Lynn sent me a chart showing an upward green line, representing the artist’s prices over time. “We are very bullish,” he said. "Evan Beard, who runs a private gallery for Masterworks on Manhattan’s Upper East Side (he is involved in sales, but not acquisitions), told me that the current cooling off in Party’s secondary market is not an indicator of the artist’s future performance. “'By no choice of the artist, there are moments in time when both speculation and status come to an artist’s market, and when they leave, it doesn’t mean that the long-term prospects of the artist’s market aren’t great,' Beard said. "To assess those long-term prospects, Beard suggested looking at curatorial support, whether serious collectors own work, the health of their primary market, and museum exhibitions." - Katya Kazakina, "Is the Party Over? What Nicolas Party’s Recent Auction Flops Mean for His Market," artnet, June 7, 2024 (https://lnkd.in/eec9VuH3) #art #artmarket #artcollectors #artcollections #stewardship #climaterisk #financialrisk #riskmitigation Image: Nicholas Party, "Still Life," 2015, sold at Christie's Hong Kong, Post Millenium Evening Sale, 28 May 2023 (https://lnkd.in/eQM4bQEc)

ART PRIZE 2025 #extendeddeadline New deadline for submission 27 Dec 2024 We invite applications from Greek and international artists for the 2025 Art Prize. Established in 2019, the Art Prize is a culmination of our thirty-year long efforts to strengthen contemporary artistic leadership and innovation. It supports contemporary artists by offering them the opportunity to create a site-specific artwork that will not only become part of the Foundation’s art collection but will join an important cultural heritage as well. The 2025 Art Prize invites Greek and international artists to apply. The selected proposal will stand out for its originality, creativity, and site-specificity. The 2025 Art Prize calls for site-specific, large-scale land art installations created to remain on permanent display outdoors, and become part of a specific, configured environment; works which narrate an internal path/route, and which can be reference points within their exhibition space. The 2025 prize is open to visual artists working in one or more of the following fields: land art, environmental art, ecological art, sculpture, sound and sculptural installation, mixed media, and artists working with natural materials, creating works that integrate art and nature with the aim of generating innovative experiences in open spaces.
