Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami’s Post

ICA Miami's Young Collectors Board (YCB) comprises the next generation of international art supporters and is dedicated to stewardship of work by emerging artists. During #MiamiArtWeek, the group voted to acquire an exciting new work at New Art Dealers Alliance alongside ICA Miami's curators and the YCB co-chairs. Kim Farkas is a Paris-based artist of Peranakan origin—the Indigenous people of Chinese descent born in Singapore—whose work is characterized by a hybridity of technological and organic forms. In the artist’s richly illuminated wall sculpture "23-28" (2023), the biomorphic and biographical combine to engage with her heritage. Farkas frequently references the ceremonial practice of symbolic offerings to forebears and deities, observed across diasporic Asian communities, and layers both ritualistic materials alongside consumer goods in his work.
