MAJORANA Project : Germanium-76 is not the only element that can undergo double-beta decay. Other detectors use isotopes of tellurium, xenon, neodymium, or other elements. It’s important to establish that any instance of neutrinoless double-beta decay really reflects the property of the neutrino. Have you read this recent publication from the Baumann group using the Vapourtec photochemical CSTR for solid-containing photoreactions? Dr Marcus Baumann commented: “The main benefit of the photo-CSTRs is that they are easy to use and are generally applicable, enabling continuous heterogeneous photoreactions that avoid reactor fouling through clogging. Process robustness along with prolonged operation allowed us to access gram-quantities of intricate compounds that are otherwise difficult to obtain. Moreover, the modularity offered by the combination of this CSTR approach with classical continuous flow processing provides an attractive hybrid approach, with many potential applications in both academic and industrial labs.” https://lnkd.in/ed286-8J

Wednesday, at #EWGAE 204 in Potsdam, Germany, organized by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Zerstörungsfreie Prüfung (DGZfP). At this event the #AE (#acoustic #emission) community meets to discuss the newest methodological developement and applications. Being invited for a keynote, I had the chance to advocate the combination of #AE and active #ultrasonic #monitoring, which allows to add valuable information to #structural #health #monitoring (#SHM) and to supervise buildings and bridges in much better detail - the collapse of the #Carolabrücke last week shows the importance. The use of #coda #wave #interferometry (#CWI) and embedded transducers helps to detect changes in a very early stage. How to implement this in practice? Wait for good news next month!
