Does your university education give you the right competences for a job supporting the green transition? Join an in-person session at DTU! On December 3rd we debate how our respective educational institutions support the green transition. Join the discussion and make your voice heard! Businesses and communities are already working to mitigate the effects of climate and environmental change and to promote the green transition. But the ideas and technologies that they must develop are so new that they often have not entered existing curricula at universities around the world. At this seminar, we will discuss strategies and experiences from Denmark and India with respect to bringing the necessary knowledge into education systems. We will debate how companies and universities can collaborate to incorporate more up to date information about current technology developments and challenges so that candidates graduate with much-needed state-of-the-art competences for the green transition. Of particular interest is the knowledge ecosystem around the Indo-Danish Green Strategic Partnership and ways to ensure that education institutions and companies work closely together to meet the goals in the Indo-Danish partnership. Come hear leading experts and join the discussion, you can meet: 🎤His Excellency the Ambassador of India to Denmark, Manish Prabhat, Embassy of India Copenhagen 🎤 Jens O. Duus, Vice Dean of Education, DTU 🎤 Devarajan Ramanujan, Associate Professor, AU 🎤 Shannon Olsson, Global Director, the the echo network 🎤 Representatives from Indian Danish Chamber of Commerce (IDCC). Evaluative research can advance sustainability education through the learning it can enable, at micro and systems levels. This proposition was explored by examining evaluation practice in a 6-year international programme entitled Transdisciplinary Education Collaboration for Transformations in Sustainability involving universities and biosphere reserves/regions in Germany, South Africa and Canada. https://buff.ly/3zG1P04

Looking forward to being back in the Education Space at the Education Estates® Exhibition | Conference | Awards Net Zero Conference at The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) The challenge across the education estate have been well reported and funding needs to prioritise delivering a safe, secure and sustainable estate. The technology to transition to net zero education estates has been well established many years, however the estate is still not there. I will be chairing a session on ‘The barriers and enablers to a long-term Sustainable Estate’ with; Beverly Quinn from the Department for Education, Becca Clarke and Alex Whitefield. This session will explore the barriers and enablers to having a long-term sustainable estate, including: - the role of soft landings, stakeholder engagement and why commissioning is not just a nice to have; - the need for training and how are education organisations upskilling staff to take ownership of the NZ assets; - how education estates teams can use data to maximise efficiency and understand asset requirements; - What tools and guidance are out there for operational teams to push forward decarbonisation; - Other enabler or barriers that need to be overcome to deliver decarbonisation. The panel will share experiences from new and refurbished assets from across schools and further education colleges. Arcadis Andrew Dutton Liz Mendelsohn Paul Turpin Sharon Davies MRICS MAPM MRTPI

🌱 European Green Deal & Universities: Leading the Way to a Sustainable Future 🌱 The European Green Deal is more than just a set of environmental policies—it's a roadmap for making the EU the first climate-neutral continent by 2050. 🌍 Universities have a unique opportunity to lead this transition by educating, innovating, and inspiring sustainable practices. These latest updates from the European Commission, released in October 2024, highlight how the Green Deal is shaping a greener, cleaner future. 1️⃣ Climate Neutrality Goals: The European Climate Law makes it legally binding for the EU to reach net-zero emissions by 2050, with an ambitious target of reducing emissions by 55% by 2030 (compared to 1990 levels). This long-term clarity allows universities to plan green projects and curricula that align with these goals. 📅📊 2️⃣ Funding Opportunities: The EU has mobilized significant funding to support green initiatives: 💶 €275 billion from NextGenerationEU and REPowerEU will be used for clean investments. 🌱 €118 billion from Cohesion Policy is earmarked for projects promoting energy efficiency, renewable energy, and sustainable urban mobility. Universities can tap into these funds to develop research centers, green technologies, and sustainability programs on their campuses. 3️⃣ Green Skills & Innovation: With the Green Deal Industrial Plan, there is a push to boost manufacturing and innovation in clean technologies. Universities can play a pivotal role in training students to become leaders in the green economy, focusing on sectors like hydrogen, renewable energy, and electric vehicles. 🚗🔋 4️⃣ Reducing Carbon Footprint with ETS: The updated EU Emissions Trading System (ETS) now covers more sectors, encouraging businesses and institutions to cut down emissions. Universities can demonstrate their commitment by adopting cleaner energy and reporting progress, showcasing their role in building a greener economy. 🌿🏢 5️⃣ Creating Resilient Communities: Instruments like the Social Climate Fund ensure that vulnerable groups are not left behind. Universities can partner with local communities, offering education and training that empower regions affected by the green transition. 🤝 💬 Why should universities care? 💬 The European Green Deal is about ensuring that everyone benefits from the transition to a clean, sustainable economy. Universities can not only educate the next generation of climate leaders but also be a hub for green innovation, supporting local communities and driving economic growth. 📖 Learn more about the latest updates from the European Commission and how the European Green Deal can transform your university and community: Read the full publication - https://lnkd.in/dnx3seGG

Together with the economist, specialist in Climate Finance Diego Balverde, share this article. Comments are welcome. #Academia has responded to the #environmental challenge with a growing interest in #sustainability. The figures are compelling: mentions of "sustainability" have multiplied by 9 between 2004 and 2024, and #students are demanding greater #integration of sustainability in their studies. Global #rankings of sustainable #universities inspire and guide action. They highlight institutions that integrate sustainability in all areas, from #research to campus #management. But sustainability goes beyond knowledge management. It is a moral imperative that must permeate all human knowledge and action. Is a living flame that must guide us towards a sustainable #future. Integrating sustainable development goals into curricula is not just about adding a course or a topic. It is incorporating the principles of sustainability in all #disciplines in a comprehensive way. This integration must be both vertical and horizontal, seeking to form not only #consumers, but global #citizens with local and complete awareness. Welcome to this journey towards a better future!
