"Andrea" makes beauty products and was selling in a consignment store. I bought several of her products and loved them. But, one day, I went to the store and it wasn't open during its business hours. I waited in the car for 40 minutes, the store never opened. I told Andrea about it and warned her that's a sign that something is wrong. I said that the owner "William" may be having employee issues, rent issues, some kind of financial issues. Andrea had just received a check from William and had recently said all was well. I know better. When a business isn't open when it's supposed to be open, that's a bad sign. I cautioned Andrea to make arrangements to sell her stuff in other stores and not keep to much inventory in William's store because he may get locked out for non-payment of rent. That was in December. In February, William's stores closed and, as I predicted, he was locked out. All of Andrea's inventory was stuck in the store, now owned by the landlord. Lesson 1: Andrea learned that if she's going to sell her stuff in a store, she needs to go to the store on occasion to see what's really going on. Lesson 2: People lie. Whether it's a store or a job where it seems like something is wrong, trust your own eyes and ears way more than what owners tell you. And, plan your next move to get a new job, a new supply chain, a new get-out! Need Career Coaching? Or a Standout Resume? Contact Me #beyourbestbrand #beyourbestcareerarchitect #resumes

"They're trusting a 19-year-old with over £50,000 worth of diamonds and watches." I told myself three years ago when I was offered a temporary promotion to supervisor for Signet Jewelers (UK and Ireland) before heading off to university. "They're trusting a 22-year-old with over £200,000 worth of diamonds and watches." I found myself saying two weeks ago when a simple transfer from my uni branch to my home branch for the summer turned into another temporary promotion to Supervisor. After completing my first shift, I realised just how strong imposter syndrome can be! Despite working at Signet since I was 16, which adds up to around five years of sales experience, despite working at both of their subsidiaries across Northampton, Norwich, and Cambridge, despite all the reviews about my service from customers, despite being dubbed a 'Superseller'—with last month alone generating over £30,000 in sales with just my part-time hours—and most importantly, despite having been a supervisor before, I still felt unqualified for the role. It got me thinking about other areas where this feeling tends to creep in. As much as I love working for Signet Jewelers, this is just a part-time job that helps me pay off Klarna and continue shopping at Sainsbury's and M&S as a student, because a 30-minute bus ride to Aldi is just too much for me. So if imposter syndrome shows up here, in what other significant areas of my life could it be lurking? How many missed opportunities because of it? In Christianity, we have a saying: "God doesn't just call the qualified, but also qualifies the called." It's a reminder that whether or not you feel qualified, you can still rise to the challenge. So, instead of doubting myself, I’m choosing to embrace the opportunity, knowing that growth often happens outside of our comfort zones.

I recently posted an article which mentioned that tight retail vacancy would lead to quick occupation of recently vacated store space. I wonder what effect the additional vacancies mentioned below will do to those metrics?

New blog written by yours truly on insolvency in the retail sector
Ted Baker became the latest high-profile collapse of a retail giant in the UK when administrators were appointed to its UK entity, No ordinary Designer Label Limited, in March of this year. It has been announced that the brand is set to close 15 of its shops, with a loss of around 245 jobs. https://lnkd.in/euHV8i_Q #tedbaker #retail

So i had some nostalgic thoughts thus morning!! So leme tell you about my first time in a crisis solver/management role, don't worry it was only for one day maybe 3/4 of the day 😉 I was 17y, i went to work in a store as extra backup before the holiday, and some emergency came up!!! The manager of the store had to leave, his brother who new the business and theoretically would have taken is place, left as well!! The store was a mess... and when i say a mess i mean a huge mess! All of the shelves was empty and the entire merchandise on the floor!! I was left alone, a mid one of the busiest days of the year, after about an hour i had help, the wife of the owner came by and she had absolutely no idea what has to be done in the store, At the end of the day i was able to leave the store organized, make sales, get a raise, and was offerd to start ruining the store full time... Do you think i took that offer? Leme know in the comments when was your first time in your role today? #business_strategy

More challenges for the retail world… Big Lots looks to prepare for bankruptcy. I have been rooting for this group for a long time…a favorite store of my family. This is the store that my husband and I went to frequently when we were just forming a family to try and find deals that gave us access to everything from holiday decor, our first outdoor patio set, and of course just good finds!! Sending well wishes to all those affected as they look to find their next chapter. Below is a post from Burlington Stores, Inc. who are hiring and it sounds like more retailers will also be posting updated job positions. #retailindustry #biglots #retailnews
