🚤 **Monaco Yacht Show vs. METS: Where's the Real Action?** 🚤 A few weeks ago, I posted about the superyachts show, and Feadship dropped a bombshell: no stand at the Monaco Yacht Show this year! People were floored, but Farouk’s explanation made it all crystal clear. After chatting with various companies, I noticed a trend: everyone feels like they need to be at the Monaco Yacht Show, but no one’s really making it rain there. It’s more of a fancy yachting reunion than a sales bonanza. So, why do companies shell out big bucks for a show that doesn’t boost their bottom line? Is it fear of looking like they’ve hit rough seas if they skip it? Now, let's talk about METS (Marine Equipment Trade Show). I’m hearing rave reviews, and it seems like METS is set to grow even bigger. I’m curious: captains and owners' reps, do you actually hunt for refit or new build products at the Monaco Yacht Show, or is METS your go-to? And suppliers, don't be shy – jump in with your thoughts! Venice Boat Show… this could have been an email. Beautiful location, but do we need all these smaller boat shows? I see an increasing number of shipyards doing intimate, private events for clients, brokers and dealers alike. These allow for a more personal connection over shared experiences and memories. There, the shipyard controls the environment and the narrative. As a result, the brand's status is raised, compared to being just another booth in a row of competitors. Boat shows are necessary, as they allow buyers access to a wide variety of yachts within walking distance. Yet only major shows such as Cannes or Monaco attract enough of the fleet and new models to truly make them interesting. The smaller yacht shows are limited in their scope, and therefore their usefulness is questionnable. Is the investment in time and capital worth it? In the current climate, everything is about ROI. Are fewer, bigger yacht shows combined with more private events the way to go? Let me know your thoughts below 👇
