Asking for help is not easy. It is easy to think that we can do it ourselves because we don’t want to burden people, they might laugh at us or think lesser of us. These narratives is couched in a fear based space, shrouded with uncertainty as to how it might affect our sense of self, or how it might affect our relationships with others. Then, I stumbled on this book “The hard things about hard things” by Ben Horowitz and came across this line that goes something like this. We all have fears. The difference between courage and not being courageous is what we choose to do about the situation. What we choose is the key essence here. Fear is a reaction and courage is a decision. The former paralyses us and keeps us in status quo. The latter gets us focused on our intention and bigger objective to drive us forward to act. And then again, how we choose to act is another decision we have to make. The courage to ask for help is not a weakness but a strength. When we embrace vulnerability, we too embrace possibilities and new discoveries. Over the years, I’ve learnt to ask for help. I’ve learnt to be more vulnerable and I’m still learning. I’ve also learnt that people are willing to support. The more we all share, the more we all understand, and in what I hope we are all headed towards, the more we become compassionate towards ourselves and others. #selfawarenessfestival2024 #togetherwegrow #growthbeans
