It was an honour to participate on the panel today at Climate week in New York on scaling up Indigenous pathways to nature-based solutions. Thank you Yamide Dagnet as our moderator and Judy Da Silva from Grassy Narrows and Samantha Whiteye as co-panelists. It was a pleasure and honour to provide insights and creative ideas for financing to unlock the potential climate mitigation activities. Meegwetch to the hosts Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) and Restore, Assert and Defend (RAD) Network. Indigenous-led nature-based solutions are initiatives that use Indigenous knowledge and science to address climate change. These solutions can include activities such as: - Ecological restoration: Restoring natural carbon sinks, like forests and wetlands, to help sequester carbon -Improved land management: Managing land to improve resilience to climate change -Cultural burning: Using cultural burning to increase light, soil moisture, and nutrients in grasslands -Biodiversity ranching: Ranching to increase biodiversity and ecosystem resilience There are a few actions needed to advance these solutions such as proper accounting for the investment case, better data and tools, amendments to policy and jurisdiction to support Nations, and multi- pronged approach to financing strategies. Looking forward to future collaboration with this area. #climateweek #climatejustice #naturebased #naturebasedclimatesolitions

We couldn't go into Scotland's Climate Week without talking about peatland! Peatland restoration and protection is vital in our fight against climate change as peatlands are highly effective at storing carbon. Innovations like University of Stirling Forth-ERA Digital Observatory play a vital role in supporting peatland restoration efforts. As the University of Stirling team explains, “Forth-ERA provides near real-time data on a wide range of environmental variables, from air and water quality to peatland health, which helps us and our partners better understand how different parts of the environment respond to pressures like climate change.” Research, monitoring and advancements like this are essential in fighting the climate crisis and helping ensure restoration efforts are as impactful as possible. Read more about the Forth-ERA Digital Observatory and how this innovation has inspired the team in our latest blog, as part of #ScotClimateWeek 🌿👇 🔗 https://bit.ly/4exwjQu University of Stirling NatureScot #PeatlandRestoration #ClimateAction #ForthERA #StoriesForChange #ScotlandClimateWeek #ScotClimateWeek

As we continue to search for ways to combat the climate change emergency, it is important that we as a global community consider nature-based solutions as an important tool in fighting climate change. Nature-based solutions include “actions that protect, conserve, restore, sustainably use, and manage natural or modified ecosystems to deliver societal benefits” and are often underutilized in intergovernmental decision-making related to climate and health. Nature-based solutions such as forest protection/restoration, creating and maintaining urban green spaces, and implementing sustainable agricultural practices (crop rotation, soil conservation, and agroforestry) have a wide range of benefits including: 🌱 Reducing greenhouse gas and carbon emissions 🌱 Providing opportunities for carbon sequestration and storage 🌱 Improving mental and physical health and allowing opportunities for greater social interactions 🌱 Improving air quality and reducing the effect of landslides, flooding, and food insecurity Click the link below to learn more about how nature-based policy solutions provide an excellent opportunity to combat climate change and improve peoples health worldwide: https://lnkd.in/gg5BX-H2 #GlobalHealth #ClimateChange #Nature #PublicHealth #Sustainability #HealthEquity

✊We are #Generation Restoration: Empowering Change on World Environment Day 🏜️🌍 “We cannot turn back time, but we can grow forests, revive water sources, and bring back soils. We are the generation that can make peace with land.” The World Environment Day marks the biggest global campaign for the environment. Led by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the theme this year is “land restoration, desertification, and drought resilience.” As the foundation that makes all life on Earth possible, our land is currently threatened by drought, pollution, and climate threats 🌡️ 🏭 As UN Secretary-General António Guterres reminds us, “Inaction is too costly. But swift and effective action makes economic sense. Every dollar invested in ecosystem restoration creates up to thirty dollars in economic benefits.” 🌱🐝 ASUENE is proud to be part of #GenerationRestoration: a global community of policymakers, companies, organisations, and advocates that seek actionable change. #GenerationRestoration begins with us. 5 June is #WorldEnvironmentDay: https://lnkd.in/g8RBQ3q
