The U.S. Marshals Service's Special Operations Group (SOG) conducts the 2024 Selection Course, a multi-month training process to evaluate USMS deputies, or candidates chosen to attend, on becoming members of the SOG team. Candidates undergoing selection endure a physically and mentally demanding process designed to assess their suitability for high-risk operations. The selection course includes rigorous physical fitness tests such as push-ups, sit-ups, a timed run, pull-ups, swimming, rucking and an obstacle course. Candidates also undergo advanced shooting assessments, tactical training, and written exams administered by SOG cadre covering various topics from communication, weapons handling and team tactics. The course is conducted under high-stress conditions to simulate real-world scenarios, testing each candidates’ ability to remain focused, make quick decisions, and work effectively in teams. The 24/7 monitored selection process is challenging, with strict standards and evaluations, aiming to identify individuals who demonstrate the necessary skills, resilience, and determination to become effective team members. Established in 1971, SOG is a rapidly-deployable elite unit capable of conducting complex and sensitive operations throughout the globe to further the rule of law. As a firefighter and public sector employee, I can't help but shake my head at The Heritage Foundation's Project 2025. On page 82 of the #Mandate for Leadership, they suggest that congress make public-sector unions #illegal. Imagine a world where essential services, like firefighting, are driven solely by political agendas and not by the people who actually do the work. What could possibly go wrong? Clearly, the path to better governance is through more bureaucracy and less representation for those who risk their lives every day. The Idea that local governements will protect their fire fighters and their communities is a joke. 📞🌍 Talk about global teamwork! Recently, the Dover Police Department in Delaware played a pivotal role in an trans-Atlantic rescue. A caller from Albania, mistaking Dover, Delaware for Dover, England, reported a sinking boat in the English Channel. Instead of transferring the frantic call, Emergency Medical Dispatcher (EMD) MacKenzie Atkinson sprang into action, using Fire Priority Dispatch System (FPDS) to collect vital information such as the ship's coordinates. EMD Connor Logan began alerting international authorities while MacKenzie stayed on the phone. Within 15 minutes and 48 seconds, the Maritime and Coastguard Agency confirmed they were enroute to rescue the vessel. The Dover team went live with FPDS on August 7, 2024, meaning less than a month had passed since implementation before the agency received the mis-routed international distressed ship call. Thanks to their quick thinking and training, all lives were saved! 🙌 We’re so proud of the Dover Police Department's dedication to public safety, both local and global.
