A lot of our work with enterprises revolves around monitoring the health and performance of their IT infrastructure. The aim is to ensure that the applications they use to transact business and achieve core business outcomes deliver the performance, availability, and scalability expected of them. This task has become harder over the years as the infrastructure has become fragmented and more complex. The coming of the cloud was a major factor and another was the arrival of the hybrid workplace. However, as businesses have spread across geographies and regions, today we are forced to confront one more complication.   A key part of the infrastructure is now the public internet. Remote employees and offices are far more likely to turn to the internet to connect with corporate tools and resources than a dedicated enterprise network or intranet. Obviously, it’s hard to ensure consistent network performance and characteristics across locations while depending on the public internet. If that is so, isn’t it necessary to monitor and understand how the internet impacts their applications? This adds another dimension to the infrastructure management puzzle.
