Dear Subscribers, We’re excited to share the Top 100 Wines of 2024, a selection of the most notable wines we’ve reviewed at JebDunnuck, com over the past year. This list reflects a balance of quality, value, availability, and a touch of Wow Factor. Our team carefully reviewed thousands of wines to compile this lineup. While the 2021 vintage from Napa Valley takes a leading role – showcasing a strong year for the West Coast – the list includes standout wines from Washington, Oregon, California, Bordeaux, the Rhône Valley, Piedmont, Tuscany, South America, Spain, and more. This is not just a ranking of the highest-scoring wines. Instead, it highlights wines and producers that deserve attention. If a specific wine isn’t available, we recommend trying other wines from the same producer. Every producer featured is worth exploring, now or in the future. Prices are based on estate release figures or average U.S. retail prices. While we’ve prioritized wines currently in the market, some may be harder to find. As always, creating a Top 100 list is subjective, and many other wines could easily have made the cut. That said, these are the wines that stood out most to us in 2024, and we hope they inspire your next bottle. Cheers, The JebDunnuck, com Team https://lnkd.in/g8VHwXAH

Ever wondered how to build a Wine Collection? 🤔 To create a thoughtful wine collection, consider the following approach: Grapes or Blends You Love Start with wines made from your favorite grape varieties or blends, whether it’s a classic Pinot Noir or an intriguing Bordeaux blend. Regions You Prefer Focus on wines from regions that resonate with you—whether it’s the elegance of Burgundy, the richness of Napa Valley, or the vibrancy of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. Production Philosophy You Appreciate Decide if you prefer organic, biodynamic, or conventionally produced wines. Supporting wineries that align with your values can add meaning to your collection. Producers You Admire Highlight the work of producers whose wines consistently impress you or who have a style you enjoy exploring. Vintages You Treasure Collect wines from standout years or vintages that hold personal significance. Vintage diversity also showcases how wine evolves with time. While these guidelines aren’t set in stone, they provide a solid framework to structure your collection and understand your preferences. By David Nagy, DipWSET

Have you ever felt lost reading a fine wine label? 🍇 Descriptions such as appellation, Cru classification, region, and other significant details may be confusing when deciphering the information on a label. We are here to make it easy. Those often fancy label designs aren’t just pretty pictures 🖼; they may illustrate the history and reflect on the vineyard's ethos, but there are also labels like Château Mouton Rothschild collaborating with world-famous artists to create label masterpieces. Beyond the design, the labels are packed with valuable information that tells you if the wine could be a good investment! 📈 In our recent story, 𝘏𝘰𝘸 𝘵𝘰 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘥 𝘢 𝘭𝘢𝘣𝘦𝘭 𝘰𝘧 𝘢 𝘧𝘪𝘯𝘦 𝘸𝘪𝘯𝘦? we analyze 8 sections of the French fine wine label, such as the appellation, vintage, and classification, to build your confidence in choosing the best wines. Ageing our wines is a meticulous and careful process – it’s instrumental to developing depth of flavour in our wines. Here we explore how oak interacts and enhances our Chardonnays. Oak has a fascinating effect on Chardonnay. When it’s rested in oak barrels, the wine interacts with the wood developing flavours which are usually likened to vanilla, toast, caramel and spice. There’s lots of variables at play here (the size of the barrel, its age, whether it’s been used before, where the oak comes from, whether the inside has been toasted or not – and if so, how much). The skill for the winemaker is in knowing which barrel to choose, and how long the Chardonnay should spend resting in it. For a beautiful example of French-oak-aged wine, look no further than our Chardonnay Guinevere. The 2021 vintage was named “top white wine” by WineGB last year. If you’re yet to try it, we’ve a few bottles remaining before we welcome in vintage 2022 later this month. Clos des Lambrays Grand Cru, LVMH Vins d’ Exception "From Grape to Stars" Project in Burgundy This photo shows fermenting wine tanks seen from above. Every year, I work with the most prestigious French wine Domaines & Châteaux within 20 days of the harvest. It is a work on the concept of transformation, in this case, that of grapes into wine, a process that is found everywhere in the universe. By plunging my gaze into the organic I show how Man, who is at the heart of this transformation, reveals its cosmic dimension. I go back in time to capture the DNA of these iconic wines in the early days of their birth. These wines are rare, sometimes almost impossible to find, and some of the winegrowers who produce them are considered Stars. Works avaible: Edition of 7, 100X100cm (39”x39”) Edition of 3, 150x150cm (59’’x59’’) #Clos des Lambrays#LVMH#LVMH Vins d’Exception#DomaineDesLambrays#wine

Interesting article about terroir and the relation that humans/winemakers have in the equation for producing wine. It’s fascinating to think about the perspective the winemaker from the article has about the impact of terroir on wine compared to the impact from a winemaker. From studying wine I feel that terroir is the foundation of the production of wine. Humans play a large role in the vineyard in ways of management that help balance the forces of nature that humans can’t control. When the grapes are harvested for wine production the natural factors of terroir have a different level of impact. I think from there, the terroir is then experienced in the aroma and taste of a wine. The aroma and taste of a wine is shaped in different ways by winemakers and their winemaking styles. Would definitely love to hear more on this and different perspectives from colleagues and people in the wine industry.
Is Terroir a Myth?

Does a wine that updates its style lose its soul? During a recent tasting of the 2024 vintages still in vat, I once again had winemakers explaining what I was “supposed” to perceive in each wine. But is that necessary today? Gone are the days when I found excitement in an expert meticulously dissecting every subtle note of a wine. Today, I believe wine must speak for itself - boldly, clearly, and without the need for translation. In a world surrounded by endless inputs and information, wine must cut through the noise. Its message needs to be: - Immediate - Unambiguous - True to its origin The responsibility isn't on the consumer to decode complex flavor profiles. It lies squarely with the winemaker to craft a wine that communicates its identity effortlessly. A wine's soul isn't about rigid tradition, but about integrity. In fact, the wines we drink today are far different from the ones we drank 30 years ago. Climate is different from what it was 30 years ago, even 10. Can a wine evolve without losing its character? It think it can, respecting the characteristics of the varietal, terroir and also tradition. 🏆 The ultimate validation? The bottle that empties first at the dinner table. Not because it demands experts' analysis, but because it speaks directly to those who appreciate it. In wine, as in any other kind of communication, clarity is king. What are your thoughts? What do you do different from before? How do you drink different from before? #WineCulture #WineCommunication #WineIndustry #Authenticity
