For this session, a 'Digest of expert views' was put together, containing the views of a group of internationally acknowledged SEA experts and the IAIA community. With the announcement of an additional £2.9 billion for the UK Ministry of Defence in the budget this year, the UK is taking a decisive step toward bolstering its defence sector. In 2023, the JEDHub Annual Economic Report, which can be read here JEDHub.org, evidenced that for every £1 spent by surveyed companies, 70p was spent with UK suppliers to produce defence goods and services, outlining the strong domestic impact of the defence ecosystem. Budgetary increases like those announced, serve to reinforce this effect and serve as a strong signal to UK companies of their government's commitment to defence. We are approaching the deadline for the 2024 JEDHub Annual Survey which closes on 25th November where invited defence companies can contribute towards the 2024 JEDHub Annual Economic Report. Nigerian aviation and aerospace minister Festus Keyamo has said that Nigeria Air remains ‘suspended indefinitely.’ During a ministerial press briefing in Abuja, Keyamo said: “It remains suspended. It was never Air Nigeria. It was not Air Nigeria. That’s the truth. It was only painted Nigeria Air. It was Ethiopian Airlines trying to flag our flag." The Nigeria Air project was unveiled in 2023. The launch caused concerns about the ownership arrangement, which gave Ethiopian Airlines a 49 percent equity stake, while the Federal Government held five percent, and a consortium of three Nigerian investors owned 46 percent. The Democratic Republic of Congo #DRC 🇨🇩 is launching its airport modernization plan ✈️. #AirCongo, the future national airline 🛫, could make its first flight on December 1st 📅, according to the Ministry of Transport. Negotiations with Ethiopian Airlines resumed on September 13t. In the meantime, the government is keeping Congo Airways operational 🛩️ to avoid the absence of a national carrier. The new airline is expected to address the challenges faced by #CongoAirways, including debt 💸, a reduced fleet 🛬, and restrictions imposed by the European Union 🚫🇪🇺. This project aims to reduce the dominance of foreign airlines ✈️🌍 serving the DRC and to make the aviation sector more competitive 💼📊. The $209 million facility, previously struggling with minimal flights, will now be overseen by Shaurya Aeronautics (Pvt) Ltd. of India and Airports of Regions Management Company of Russia under a 30-year contract approved by the Sri Lankan Cabinet.
