Let’s keep it real—the holidays can be… a lot. Especially when family expectations feel overwhelming. But here’s the truth: You are allowed to set boundaries, even with loved ones. Here’s how to set kind but firm boundaries this holiday season: Get Clear on Your Limits What’s draining you? Too many events? Financial pressure? Emotional triggers? Decide where you need to draw the line before things get stressful. Communicate Early & Kindly Use loving but direct statements like: “We’re keeping things low-key this year.” “I can’t make it, but let’s set up a time to connect later.” Release Guilt & Expectations Someone may still be upset—and that’s okay. You are not responsible for managing others’ feelings. You’re responsible for protecting your peace. Remember, protecting your peace isn’t selfish—it’s essential. You’re allowed to create the holiday experience that feels right for you. Prioritizing yourself doesn’t end with holiday boundaries. Given that we are anchored in the spirit of gratitude, let us also acknowledge the holiday dissonance that many experience right now. The unattainable expectations, amplified by consumer culture, clash against the challenges of a life lived. The illusion that everyone else is somehow flourishing toward a holiday standard deepens the isolation and discourages connection. There are ghosts of the past and relationships strained or gone. Substance use is gasoline on this fire. If any of the above resonates with you, know that you or your loved one are not alone. Millions of families are in recovery. Know there are communities who will embrace you, fellow travelers who will replace judgment for hope and belonging. Imagine what good can come from taking that next small right step towards wellbeing. Here’s a link to a free self test for you or your loved one – a step towards finding your way forward. Let’s commit to being intentional- for us, our families and all the holidays to come. https://lnkd.in/g4giXSzA
