Let’s discuss Agritech and Career in Agritech tomorrow by 8pm. (With latest reports) In 2022, the African agritech raised $636million. This was a 25% increase from 2021, the largest y-o-y increase after a 164% change from 2020 since a total $1.8m attracted from 2013 and 2022. The global agritech funding had dipped, as well, by 41.5% between 2021 and 2022. While such figure of African agritech represents about 2% of global Agritech venture capital, its growth (in funds) had been positive in the 9 year streak, and portrays its resilience. Indeed, the African agritech needs more funding. There’s a $170b gap to raise the productivity of smallholder farmers producing bulk of the continent’s food. This is promising for Agritech. Nigeria after Kenya forms bulk of the African agritech raises. It leads Africa startup ecosystem, above Kenya. Agritech constitutes 4.8% of the Nigerian tech startup subsectors. While fintech and ecommerce represent 36% and 12.14% of the startups, both have found significant applications in agritech, ranking atop its sub-sectors 30.4% and 34.8%, respectively. With other units of the agritech -AI/IoT (13%), farm & supply chain management (8.7%) and information & knowledge sharing (4.3%) -rapidly growing along, it augurs immense opportunities and possibilities. The Policy and Strategy for digital transformation of the Nigerian economy is already established in 2030. The National AI Strategy has been as well and a 3MTT initiative to develop the required digital workforce. Should trends continue and funds pour in with Africa’s agriculture poised at a $trillion worth by 2030, it spells growth for agritech and a good place to establish career. #agritech #agrifoodtech #agriculture #startup #venturecapital #digitaltransformation #precisionagriculture #smartagriculture
