On January 1, 1863, a pivotal moment in American history unfolded as President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation. This transformative executive order declared the freedom of enslaved people in Confederate-held territories, marking a significant step toward the abolition of slavery in the United States. While it did not immediately free all enslaved individuals, it redefined the Civil War as a fight for freedom and justice, inspiring hope and galvanizing the abolitionist movement. The proclamation paved the way for the eventual ratification of the 13th Amendment, which officially ended slavery nationwide. #WeAreBlackHistory #HistoryMatters #Freedom #BlackHistory365

Royal British Legion Please use your considerable influence this Remembrance Day to reflect on the rise of Fascism, which so many fought against whom we remember this Sunday and on the 11th. Our government sends arms to a Fascist state against legal advice and International Law. President Elect Trump has laid out a number of Fascist plans for his Presidency in America. Video clips of Fascist police in Germany attacking Muslims and Pro Peace Demonstrators are increasingly circulating online. Pro Peace lawyers in Canada receive intimidating visits from the Police. Where are the voices to ring alarm bells in our democratic society? We’ve seen this before. In the 1930’s it was the Jews being targeted. Now it’s Muslims. We remember those that died fighting Fascism, to honour their memory we should be standing up united against it. If we all remain quiet, as people did in the 1930’s we are surely destined to make the same mistakes. And if it’s tolllerated in our Western Societies, who is to keep it in check? #fascism #antifascism #democracy #westernvalues #criticalthinking #systemsthinking #peace #internationallaw #democraticvalues #remembrance

The myth that the United States is a Christian nation is not only a fabrication; its continued existence poses an actual danger to the health and survival of the American experiment, an experiment that is based on secular principles of equal justice under law, and the strict separation of church and state in all aspects of state functions, policies, and powers. Beginning to see some sense in the debate - we need to be more robust in educating on and talking about why our democracy is better than alternatives, why plurality is a good thing, and the dangers of the alternative. We need to do this in ways that engage with the new digital platforms - not long and worthy, but short and meme focused. Shareable. Simple. Easier said than done of course. Post-war liberal democracy is an ideal, and needs fighting for, whose narrative needs defending. We seem to have forgotten that. https://lnkd.in/e-_7sBMe

Here is my analysis of how weaponization of antisemitism by pro-Israeli political activists and organizations perpetuates Islamophobia. Their arguments are grounded in racist notions that Muslims and Palestinians are terrorists, hateful people, and a threat to security. What evidence do they point to? Demands for equality and human dignity for Palestinians and accountability to nations that deny them these basic human rights. Watch and share widely!

“The Israel-Hamas war has energised extremists in this countre…Left unchecked, extremist ideologies can manifest in the most horrendous acts of violence imaginable. It is incumbent on all of us to speak up against such evil. I will certainly never tire of doing so, nor relax in our mission to challenge extremism across the board… We must be vigilant in protecting against the encroachment of extremist narratives that threaten community cohesion, and we must be steadfast in our defence of democratic values…This year, we also published new research on the study of extremism in the UK, the radicalisation evidence base, involuntary celibate (incel) networks, and blasphemy-related extremism. Through our ongoing programme of events, we brought together experts to build our understanding of the current and future extremism landscape.” https://lnkd.in/gRHK-Mts

The Agendas of Jew Hatred Hudson Institute 20 jun 2024 Soon after Hamas attacked Israel on October 7, the Jewish state found itself under attack on seven fronts: in Gaza, the West Bank, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Iran, and Yemen. Meanwhile, its enemies came out of the woodwork in Europe and North America as antisemitic and anti-Zionist demonstrations exploded on college campuses and city streets. From Houthi attacks on international shipping to “tentifadas” on American campuses, it is not hard to see that something more than just support for Gaza is at work here. Many different groups are hitching a ride on the Israel-Palestine conflict. What are the hidden agendas of antisemites and anti-Zionists? What are the implications of this agenda for national security? And what is to be done? To discuss these questions, Hudson’s Michael Doran hosts Daniel Schwammenthal, the director of the American Jewish Committee’s Transatlantic Institute; Ilan Berman, the vice president of the American Foreign Policy Council; Professor Paul Caresse of Arizona State University; and Senior Fellow Liel Leibovitz.
