Saudi Arabia's "The Line" - a futuristic urban experiment? In October, excavation for "The Line" began, touted as an ecological city in the desert. Spanning 170km, with 9M residents, it aims to redefine urban living: 🛤️ Linear design: Two rows of skyscrapers, 500m high, stretching from the Red Sea 🏙️ Population density: 265,000/sqkm—10x denser than Manhattan, 4x denser than Manila But challenges presented themselves, with an average trip time of 60 mins due to distance and limited public transport. Researchers from the Complexity Science Hub propose an 𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐩𝐭 👇 In contrast to the linear approach, "𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐢𝐫𝐜𝐥𝐞" offers a more connected urban design. Shorter distances promote active mobility and reduce reliance on high-speed rail.
