It was yet another impactful experience yesterday as we gladly attended the last #Teach4SDGs training workshop. Our guest speaker was Madam Ruth Olowosile (Executive Dir. of 'The Sustainable Green Environment Initiative', Cofounder and Executive Dir. of SGI) She spoke on the topic: How To Design Climate Change and SDGs Program Curriculum for Schools and other Students. Key Takeaways includes but not limited to: 1. Integrate Climate Change and SDGs into existing curriculum 2. Use interactive and experiential learning methods 3. Focus on student-centered and inquiry-based learning 4. Emphasize critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration and Connect learning to real-world scenarios and applications 5. Encourage student-led initiatives and community engagement 6. Provide opportunities for reflection, self-assessment, and feedback Factors to consider while Designing Activities: 1. Align those activities with learning objectives and outcomes 2. Incorporate diverse perspectives and voices e.g inviting guest speakers to speak to the students. 3. Use storytelling and scenario-based learning 4. Encourage creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurship 5. Foster partnerships and collaborations with external organizations Note: she emphasize that educators have to be cautious of their approach to teaching; being mindful of what they say and do. Being mindful of the age of their students and tailoring their teaching techniques to fit that age, not exposing them to thing beyond their understanding and need at the moment. And lots more.. The results brought valuable perspectives to light: • 33% voted for ‘Focusing on a few high-impact SDGs • 17% chose ‘Integrating all relevant SDGs • 50% supported ‘Creating unique, school-specific impact measures. These insights reflect the diversity in strategic approaches schools take when aligning with global impact goals. Societal impact has become an integral part of accreditation, and aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) poses both opportunities and challenges for institutions. While some schools choose to dive deep into a select few SDGs to maximize their impact, others aim for a comprehensive alignment that showcases their broad commitment to global standards. Still, some carve out their own unique path, developing custom impact measures that resonate closely with their mission and strengths. Each approach has its merits: • Focusing on a few high-impact SDGs allows for depth and measurable change, making it easier to track and report significant outcomes. • Integrating a wide range of SDGs shows a holistic commitment but can spread resources thin. • Creating custom, school-specific measures fosters innovation but requires careful design to remain impactful and relevant. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝗡𝗲𝘅𝘁? The poll results show that there’s no one-size-fits-all answer. Institutions need to consider their mission, resources, and strategic vision to determine the best path forward. 🌟 Excited to share that I've completed the "Sustainable Development in the 21st Century" course by Yonsei University on Coursera, featuring insights from the renowned Ban Ki-moon! 🎓 This course has been a transformative experience, providing a comprehensive overview of sustainable development and its critical role in shaping our world. From exploring the interconnectedness of global challenges to examining innovative solutions for building a more sustainable future, the course content has been both enlightening and empowering. 💡🌍 One aspect that particularly resonated with me was the in-depth exploration of SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being. As one of the founders of Bloody Mary & Co, a sustainable impact project focused on blood donation awareness, I've seen firsthand the importance of promoting health and well-being within communities. The course deepened my understanding of the complex factors influencing global health outcomes and inspired me to further advocate for positive change in this area. 💪🩺 💬 Throughout the course, I had the opportunity to engage in thought-provoking discussions, apply new concepts to real-world scenarios, and think about real solutions to propose to community leaders. In a bid to promote sustainable development and educate the future generation about the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), AIIDEV Africa has launched Cohort 5 of the #Teach4SDGs. The Teach4SDGs programme is a 12-week intensive training that includes 10+ advanced workshops, lectures, comprehensive readings and assessments, and practical projects that will allow school educators to deepen their understanding of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The programme will cover the 17 SDGs and their targets, as well as relevant topics such as Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), Climate Change, Environmental Sustainability, Green Economy, Circular Economy and Sustainable Waste Management, Project Management, Technology and Innovation for Educators. The goal of Teach4SDGs is to equip primary and secondary teachers with the resources needed to educate the next generation to achieve a sustainable future. The project will provide teachers with the knowledge, skills, and tools needed to effectively teach their students about the SDGs, and support the integration of the SDGs into the existing curriculum. By integrating SDG-based education into the curriculum, the project aims to promote sustainable development, increase awareness, and encourage action toward achieving the SDGs. #SDGs #Act4SDGs #Teach4SDGs #AIIDEVAfrica

Too often, our focus in future thinking gravitates towards technology, recognizing it as a significant driver of change. While this is undeniably important, I firmly believe that addressing the 𝐡𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐬 𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐞 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐬 and understanding what fundamentally motivates us to initiate real transformations is even more crucial. Moreover, my approach emphasizes 𝐛𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰𝐥𝐞𝐝𝐠𝐞 𝐠𝐚𝐩. I see the skills associated with future thinking as capabilities that should be globally disseminated, not reserved for a select few. Today it is still too much kept to the lucky few, and seen as a skill that can increase ones business advantages only. not create a better world together. 𝐈 𝐫𝐨𝐨𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐚 𝐝𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐚𝐜𝐡, It is essential to acknowledge that these skills can be acquired by anyone, anywhere, challenging the notion that they are beyond the reach of the general populace. Even stronger we as futurist should make it our live mission to make sure they are accessible to all. Within Wandering the Future we work on democratizing future thinking and make these vital skills accessible to everyone, fostering a more inclusive and equitable future for all. Massive props to Corey Topf and others doing the important work of providing students with innovative and alternative pathways. Check out Cory's article, where he shares a bit about the work he and others have done over the past decade to launch innovative educational programs, such as the Innovation Diploma at AISB, at international schools worldwide. (https://lnkd.in/g5s_iPtX) These programs encourage students to tackle real-world problems by integrating multiple disciplines through project-based courses, enhancing their autonomy and interdisciplinary understanding. Moreover, students can deeply explore a specialized field to discover potential career paths. We share the realization that true innovation in education is often hindered by the limitations of working in isolation. This is why AISB and other international schools joined forces to create a collaborative, innovative diploma program. This partnership is not just about sharing resources but also about fostering connections between educators and students and gaining recognition from universities and families. It's evidence of the power of collective efforts in shaping the future of education. They are organizing the Pathways Summit to support collaboration and resource sharing. The summit is scheduled for May 3rd and 4th, with preliminary discussions starting in March.
