🌟 Exciting News! 🌟 We are very happy to highlight the innovative work of our colleague, Matthias Sulzer, in collaboration with Michael Wetter from Berkeley Lab, as they advocate for a paradigm shift in the planning and construction of building and district energy systems. Their innovative approach could be key to achieving our net-zero goals through automation and digitalization. Building and #energysystems are complex. #Netzero is the goal. Designing them as holistic systems could be the answer. Matthias Sulzer, researcher at Empa's Urban Energy Systems Laboratory and at the Berkeley Lab in California, and Michael Wetter, researcher in the Building Technology and Urban Systems Department at the Berkeley Lab, are advocating for a 🔸paradigm shift🔸 in the planning and construction process of building and district every systems. They call for a more automated and model-based planning process, as has long been common practice in the computer chip and automotive industries. 👉️This shift has the potential to revolutionize the planning, construction and operational processes. And also promote the #digitalization and #automation essential to achieving #decarbonization goals. The first concrete application of the concept is the EU project GOES (Geothermal-based Optimized Energy Systems), which aims to develop an initial application for platform-based designs using pilot plants.
