Last year, experts met to draft a roadmap to advance the U.S. laser and photonics technology. Read a summary of the results here https://t.co/LMLUC5v2Hz Inspired by laser tech's massive leaps, this roadmap advances compact, high-power sources to propel science and apps. Tackling scalability, safety, and control challenges, it aims to transform laser power, mid-IR sources, and more for a sustainable, innovative future. Full reference: Kling, Matthias F., et al. Our latest work on silicon rings is online now imec Research Foundation Flanders - FWO PIX4life Pilot Line Laser & Photonics Reviews: https://lnkd.in/esqF4Zbn arXiv: https://lnkd.in/enJTvHGt In this paper, we have revolutionized silicon rings from the fundamental bend design. With the proposed third-order polynomial interconnected circular (TOPIC) bend, the silicon ring resonators demonstrated here have achieved three records to the best of our knowledge: 1) the smallest radius (0.7 𝝁m) for silicon rings resonating with single guided mode, 2) the lowest thermal tuning power (5.85 mW/𝝅) for silicon rings with FSR ≥3.2 THz, 3) the first silicon ring-based WDM 32×100 GHz filter.

What an incredible webinar on OptiSystem Version 21.1! 🌟 A big thank you to everyone who joined us for this insightful session showcasing the latest capabilities of our cutting-edge photonics design software. Dr. Ahmad Atieh, VP of Optical Systems, provided an in-depth look at the nine powerful new component models and key improvements introduced in this groundbreaking release. From quantum key distribution and microwave photonics to power beaming systems and free-space optical transmission, we explored how these advanced features can supercharge your work in emerging fields. Demos were provided including - Wideband Travelling Wave Pulsed SOA - Transimpedance Nonlinear Amplifier - Mirror - Convert JSON to Data Files and Vise Versa - Index Refraction Structure Altitude (Cn2) - Single Photon Pulsed Laser (SPPL) - Ultrawide Band Antenna (UWB) - Photonic Power Converter (PPC) - Optical Amplifier Measured - Nonlinear Gain The webinar was a resounding success, and we're excited to see how our users will leverage these new tools to push the boundaries of innovation. For those who missed it, the recording is available on our YouTube channel https://buff.ly/44Gf77X . In the meantime, feel free to reach out if you have any questions about OptiSystem 21.1 or want to learn more about how our software can accelerate your next groundbreaking project. #OptiSystem #PhotonicsDesign #QuantumTechnology #MicrowavePhotonics #FreeSpaceOptics

Two beams are better than one! New work from Nishtha Chopra in my group showing the benefits of doubling up your THz beams. Both THz pulses run through the same THz spectrometer and are measured simultaneously. This means one beam can measure a sample, while the other acts as a reference and eliminates even large systematic errors. Check it out in ACS Photonics, https://lnkd.in/ep7T_gmd
