Europe has never had a reusable launch-to-orbit cargo spacecraft, but The Exploration Company has just raised $160 million in venture funding to build such a capsule. Within five years, it could be a competitor for SpaceX's Dragon spacecraft, and a human-rated version is also envisioned. Ned Potter has the scoop. https://lnkd.in/enyaUN3X

SpaceX Business Model The SpaceX business model is based on making and launching rockets into Earth orbit. The company was founded in 2002, by Elon Musk, famous for being the co-founder of Tesla and PayPal and one of the richest men in the world, with assets valued at about $80 billion. In short words, SpaceX wants “to revolutionize space technology, with the ultimate goal of enabling people to live on other planets”. But so far, Elon Musk’s company has focused on overcoming the current limits of space logistics, in order to reduce expenses for commercial and defense purposes. We can't deny that The interplanetary objective makes Elon Musk one of the most inspiring figures of our time and pushes SpaceX forward in technological advancements. A brief history of SpaceX The primary purpose of Elon Musk, the visionary founder of SpaceX, was to enable life on Mars and other planets. To that end, he initially thought of a venture called “Mars Oasis”, which would place a https://lnkd.in/g6JzgVDp

🚀 **Historic Moment for SpaceX!** 🚀 On Sunday, October 13, 2024, at 7:25 AM Central Time, SpaceX achieved a significant milestone with the successful liftoff of Starship's fifth flight test from Starbase, Texas. In a groundbreaking moment, Mechazilla—the incredible launch tower equipped with arms designed to catch returning spacecraft—captured the Starship super heavy booster on its very first attempt! This innovation is a game-changer for space exploration, allowing for faster rocket reuse, significantly reducing launch costs, and bringing SpaceX one step closer to its ambitious goal of building a city on Mars by 2050. What an exciting time for the future of space travel! This leap forward in technology shows that we are on the brink of new possibilities that were once the stuff of science fiction.

Excited to see startups shaping space infrastructure! Here are my favorite standouts from Y Combinator 🚀 🛰️ Lumen Orbit (YC S24) is building AI clusters in space. Check their Interesting White Paper here: https://lnkd.in/dwtFkACA ⚙️ Spaceium Inc. (YC S24) is building the service stations along the space superhighway (Repairs, Fuel, Batteries, etc). 🕸️ Basalt Tech: is creating the world's spacecraft constellations. (Orbital security, Cross-Platform Constellations, Autonomous Tasking & more). SpaceX shouldn’t be the only company driving innovation in space exploration. It’s exciting to see more companies contributing to the future of humanity’s next frontier. We need more of this bold vision to overcome Earth’s resource limitations and unlock new possibilities beyond our planet. 🌎

The magnitude of the SpaceX Starship prototype SpaceX’s Starship spacecraft and Super Heavy rocket – collectively referred to as Starship – represent a fully reusable transportation system designed to carry both crew and cargo to Earth orbit, the Moon, Mars and beyond. According to SpaceX, Starship is the world’s most powerful launch vehicle ever developed, capable of carrying up to 150 metric tonnes fully reusable and 250 metric tonnes expendable. Last month I shared an article on the Blue Origin rip-off being made in #China (click the link in the comments below), and today, I am sharing more of the same, but this time, it's a copy and paste from SpaceX. Other sources have said that China 🇨🇳 currently has as many as 7 SpaceX various rocket 🚀 clones. The #spaceeconomy will be a competition. With defense, deterrence, pride, and $10T in #economics invectives by the 2050s in #space, things are only going to continue to get more contentious between nations and commercial #spaceindustry players. " NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration and Chinese space agencies are presently locked into a second space race, with both countries building international coalitions to explore the South Pole region of the Moon and eventually establish settlements there. Because the real estate near the South Pole (especially close to craters, where there is likely to be water ice) is relatively limited, winning this race really matters for long-term space ambitions." -GSP- #5ir #spacetech The Space Economy MilkyWayEconomy

"As the dawn of a new era in space exploration rises, we witness the birth of innovations that will carry humanity to the stars." In the boundless realm of space exploration, we are all dreamers, bound by a shared purpose: to push the frontiers of the unknown and craft a future where Sci-Fi becomes ordinary. Today, as SpaceX celebrates yet another monumental breakthrough, it’s not just their success, but a victory for all who believe in the limitless potential of technology and the advancement of humanity. The joy that comes with this moment runs deep. The Mechazilla chopstick landing system is an engineering feat, a glimpse into the future of how we reach for the stars. SpaceX has proven before that rockets can land with the precision of a needle falling on its tip, but this new approach? It’s a paradigm shift. For those wondering, why is this better when Falcon rockets already perfected landing on Earth?—the answer lies in efficiency, simplicity, and ambition. By catching the Super Heavy booster mid-air with robotic arms, SpaceX is eliminating the need for traditional landing legs altogether. No more extra weight to be carried up and back down. No need for complicated post-landing logistics, where boosters must be transported back to the launchpad. Now, the rocket lands and is immediately ready for re-stacking with the next Starship, prepared for its next mission within hours instead of days. It’s a brilliant move toward minimizing downtime and maximizing the possibilities of rapid reusability. Every innovation is a step toward making space accessible for all. Every advancement is a note in the greater symphony of our shared future beyond the Earth. With each successful leap, we come closer to unifying our dreams with the stars. So here’s to SpaceX for once again breaking the mold, and for reminding us all that the only true limit is how far our imagination can reach. 🚀✨

Inventor Spotlight: Elon Musk and the Rise of SpaceX (2002) Today, we take a look at a modern-day inventor and visionary who has transformed industries and pushed the boundaries of human innovation: Elon Musk. Musk is best known as the founder of SpaceX (founded in 2002), a private aerospace company that has revolutionized space travel and set ambitious goals to colonize Mars. Elon Musk’s vision for SpaceX began with a bold idea: to make space exploration more affordable and accessible by creating reusable rockets. Before SpaceX, the cost of launching rockets into space was prohibitively high, and rockets were single-use. Musk sought to change that. In 2008, SpaceX became the first privately-funded company to successfully launch a liquid-fueled rocket (the Falcon 1) into orbit. In 2012, SpaceX’s Dragon spacecraft made history as the first commercial spacecraft to dock with the International Space Station (ISS). The company has since developed the Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy rockets, which are capable of landing back on Earth to be reused in future missions—drastically lowering the cost of space travel. One of Musk’s most ambitious projects through SpaceX is the Starship, a fully reusable spacecraft designed to carry humans to Mars and beyond. The company’s long-term goal is to establish a self-sustaining colony on Mars, ensuring the survival of humanity in the event of global catastrophes on Earth. Beyond SpaceX, Musk has made significant contributions through other ventures, including Tesla, SolarCity, and Neuralink, each pushing forward new frontiers in electric vehicles, renewable energy, and brain-computer interfaces. Musk's work with SpaceX has inspired a new generation of entrepreneurs and engineers, showing that space exploration isn't limited to government agencies and that innovation can lead to real-world solutions for some of humanity's most complex challenges.
