𝗜 𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗜 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗯𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗸 𝗱𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝘀𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆. This one was shared in a sustainability group by Mohamed Atef, and he does a great job describing the different GHG emissions scopes and mentions the importance of focusing on Scope 4. 💡 𝗦𝗰𝗼𝗽𝗲 𝟰 𝗲𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 refer to the reductions in greenhouse gases that happen outside of a product's life cycle but directly result from using that product. For example, energy-efficient appliances or fuel-saving tires help consumers avoid emissions compared to less-efficient alternatives. It’s an excellent opportunity for companies to reduce overall emissions by focusing on the positive impact their products have beyond their value chain. 𝗜𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂'𝗿𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗚𝗛𝗚 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗼𝗰𝗼𝗹 𝘀𝗰𝗼𝗽𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲, 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲'𝘀 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗜 𝘂𝘀𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺: ⚫ 𝗦𝗰𝗼𝗽𝗲 𝟭: Emissions that come directly from your business activities. Think of this as your company’s cars or factories—anything you directly own or control that produces emissions. ⚫ 𝗦𝗰𝗼𝗽𝗲 𝟮: Emissions that come from the energy you buy, like electricity for your offices or warehouses. While you don’t produce these emissions, they are created by the energy you use. ⚫ 𝗦𝗰𝗼𝗽𝗲 𝟯: These are indirect emissions. They include everything from the production of materials you buy to how your customers use and dispose of your products. It's essentially the full life cycle of your product, from suppliers to end-users. While learning more about Scope 4, I was reminded about a time I was introduced to the concept of 𝗦𝗰𝗼𝗽𝗲 𝗙 by James Atkins. ⚽ This one is for Soccer Fans. Scope F focuses on how sports teams can leverage their influence to encourage fans to adopt more sustainable behaviors, potentially reducing emissions on a much larger scale than the team’s own operations. How cool is that? Some weeks back, I’ve written here about the amazing #SustainabilityRemix program that we rolled out at Allianz Technology early this year. It has been absolutely impressive to hear from a huge variety of guest speakers about best practices and innovative strategies to some major sustainable challenges. However, the journey is not over just yet! This week, time has come for the #pitchday. After getting inspired, the Remixers participating in the program have been placed in small teams/ crews to work together and generate fresh ideas. Submission of the final game changing solutions followed and those will now be pitched in front of an expert panel. And, after a short deliberation, the shortlisted ideas will then be voted upon by all sustainability enthusiasts in our organization. I will not reveal too much at this stage about what my colleagues have prepared. But I can already tell I am incredibly excited to learn more about how #digitalaccesibility can be improved, how to score #sustainabledigitalproducts and also how to enhance #employeeengagement in sustainability practices. A big shout out goes to the whole team of Co:cubed Thanks without we wouldn't have been able to bring this amazing program up. I am sure we’ll all benefit of those #remixed ideas and all the others that we’ll hear.
