QUESTIONS CORNER: YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED! 😊 How do I get an internship abroad? ✈ There are many benefits to having an internship abroad that can build your cultural competence, language skills, and adaptability. As you consider your plans, there are a few key ways to explore opportunities abroad. ☑ Many students explore programs that will help place you into an internship abroad and provide support with finding housing and securing work authorization. While this is the most convenient way of finding an opportunity abroad, programs do come with a cost. Use program websites to also do research on internship placement sites and where interns live. ☑ Do your research! Be sure you know what work authorization requirements you need to follow where you hope to apply. Know that Colorado College cannot provide support to obtain a visa unless you are participating in a CC-led program. ☑ Already have a study abroad semester planned? Consider participating in an internship during your semester! Almost all semester study abroad programs will have an internship option, so take advantage of that option if provided. Connect with Global Education as you are considering your options. ☑ Check out job boards that are oriented to searching abroad such as idealist.org and goinglobal (provided through Tutt Library online). 🚀 Fall vs. Summer Intake: Which is Better for Your Study Abroad Plans? 🌍 Deciding on the right intake for your study abroad journey can be a game changer! Here's a quick comparison to help you make an informed choice: 🍂 Fall Intake (September) More Programs: Fall typically offers a wider range of courses and programs. Larger Cohorts: Networking opportunities are vast, with many students starting in the fall. Internship Opportunities: More chances to land summer internships before graduation. Longer Preparation Time: Ideal if you need more time to prepare or gather funds. 🌞 Summer Intake (May/June) Less Competition: Smaller class sizes mean more personalized attention and less competition. Accelerated Programs: Some summer intakes offer faster courses, helping you finish your degree sooner. Milder Climate: If you're not a fan of cold winters, a summer start gives you a gentler transition. Internship Timing: Depending on the country, securing internships may be more challenging due to off-cycle timing. ✨ Which One Should You Choose? If you're looking for variety, networking, and a structured academic calendar, Fall is for you. For those who prefer smaller class sizes, quicker programs, and potentially earlier graduation, Summer could be your best bet. In the end, it’s all about aligning your personal, academic, and professional goals with the right intake. Good luck! 🌟 #StudyAbroad #FallIntake #SummerIntake #HigherEducation #CareerPlanning

Thinking about an internship abroad is exciting, but the big question remains: Where should I go? I spoke with Janneke Bax, currently interning in Bath, UK, to hear about her experience. 𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐝𝐢𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐝𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐔𝐊? "Since English isn't my native language, and I plan to work internationally after my education, improving my English was a priority. Two months into my internship, I’ve gained more confidence speaking English and significantly expanded my vocabulary." "The UK has a royal charm and is home to numerous historic landmarks. Exploring all these places has been thrilling! Weekends here are never boring, and the experience has completely exceeded my expectations. Of all the sights I've visited, the Roman Baths made the strongest impression." "One cultural aspect that really amazed me is the politeness and friendliness of the people. I knew beforehand that the communication style here would be more indirect compared to my home country, the Netherlands. This has prompted me to reflect on my own communication approach." "I am really enjoying my time here and would definitely recommend the UK as a destination for an internship abroad." #Culture #Internship #Abroad #travel #language #international #experience #growth
