The silent killers of climate change are heat and drought. IFC is engaging on both, mobilizing private capital to help prepare water utilities for resilience to the accelerating climate changes

One of the greatest challenges cities face today is ensuring water security. No one wants to live through a "Day Zero" scenario where water is rationed, but climate change and increasing urbanization compel us to innovate and upgrade our water management systems. Japan, particularly the City of Fukuoka, has been a pioneer in this space. Earlier this year we hosted a 5-day workshop with water utility CEOs, mayors, and senior municipality officials from nine client countries, together with the WB and international experts. They shared insights and learned directly from Fukuoka's successful water management strategies. A big thank you to the Government of #Japan and the World Bank Tokyo Development Learning Center TDLC for making this enlightening event possible! So, how do you build a "Water Secure City"? I am thrilled to announce that the paper my colleagues and I—titled “The climate change: OJK’s role in Indonesian carbon trading regulation: hopes and challenges#”, has been accepted for publication in Jurnal Hukum Novelty of Universitas Ahmad Dahlan, April 2025 edition, indexed by #ScopusQ3 This paper explores the crucial role of the Financial Services Authority (OJK) in regulating carbon trading in Indonesia, along with the hopes and challenges in implementing it to support national climate targets. It’s a small step in our ongoing efforts to support the transition toward a greener, more sustainable economy and to strengthen regulations addressing the climate crisis.
