European Perspectives: Challenges and Challengers 🇪🇺 Today at ESCP Business School's Berlin campus, we had the honor of hosting Mr. Friedrich Merz and Mr. Édouard Philippe for an enlightening dialogue on "European Perspectives: Challenges and Challengers." Moderated by Mr. Jürgen Kaube, publisher at Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung and joined by our students and the French Tech community in Berlin, the event was a testament to the enduring Franco-German partnership at the heart of European history. The conversation was rich, revealing a genuine convergence of visions to forge a Europe united in diversity and progress together. Strengthening our bonds and cooperation through mutual respect is about deepening our understanding of one another—it builds trust. Four major themes emerged from the discussion: - Enhanced European Regulation: Empowering our European companies to be more agile and competitive, better serving the global market—not just Europe—especially regarding the mergers of French and German enterprises. - Green Energy at the Core of Future Growth: Addressing the significant increase in energy consumption anticipated from technological advancements and AI-related industries, while steadfastly pursuing the decarbonization of our economy. - A Unified Financial Market: Establishing a cohesive financial marketplace to more effectively support companies in their growth trajectories. - Strengthening Student Mobility through Erasmus: Enhancing cultural understanding by promoting student exchanges, enriching each other's perspectives. To achieve these ambitions, education is key. It is essential for inspiring and preparing future responsible leaders in a DISRUPTED world—Digitalized, Inclusive, Sustainable, Rapid, Unpredictable, Polarized, Tangled, Empowered, Dynamic. Earlier this year, I had the privilege of engaging with the Hult Prize Foundation, facilitated by Geoffrey Mogeni, one of their officials. This experience was nothing short of remarkable. I was tasked with evaluating and assessing a selection of Hult Prize applications, each presenting innovative solutions aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The journey was inspiring. Witnessing the creativity and determination of young people to tackle global challenges left me in awe. It wasn't just another consultancy assignment for me; it was a profound opportunity to witness firsthand how the younger generation is actively shaping a better future. Gone are the days of passive observation. Today's youth are actively driving change, demonstrating their readiness to contribute meaningfully to global progress. It's truly uplifting to see them not only identifying problems but also actively engaging in crafting solutions. In essence, this experience reaffirmed my belief in the power of youth-driven innovation and their role as catalysts for positive change. It's a testament to the exciting era we live in, where passion, creativity, and a commitment to impact are driving forces in shaping a better world.

The other post ⚡ Always a rollercoaster of emotions, these graduations. 🌞 Happiness, among students who received their diplomas and catch up with each other after a long summer. 🌟 Pride, among mamas, papas, and grandparents (and mamme, papa, oma’s, opa’s, nonne e nonni,…). 💧 Some sadness, because a great year has truly come to an end. 🌈 And some fear, because the future feels uncertain. As educators, it feels like all we do is plant tiny seeds, showing students where to find the water and the watering can. Then, the magic happens! It’s hard to explain, but probably self-selection into the program helps, along with a sweet balance of shared values and diverse backgrounds. 🔹 To employers: a group of creative minds and beautiful souls is ready to rock. Here's a new paper on #passion in the Journal of Business Venturing! I wrote it with two great friends and colleagues: Anne Domurath and Simon Taggar. Oddly, we are all reported to be working at LUT University in Finland...but that only applies to me. Anne and Simon are at the Lazaridis School of Business & Economics at Wilfrid Laurier University in Canada (as am I for a few more months). If you are interested: We studied the influence of inter- and intra-individual team dynamics on entrepreneurial passion change, and we looked at the relevance of passion change to important outcomes. We drew on person-fit theory and tested our hypotheses with data from a fabulous European accelerator program. This involved 343 team members nested in 79 newly formed teams. There's too many results to report here (a big complex study!) but as an example, we see that entrepreneurial intent is predicted by both (a) end-state levels of individual passion and (b) passion growth trajectories for inventing and founding (but not developing). We also see that team passion trajectories predict team performance. In a nutshell - if you study levels of passion at a point in time, you miss the powerful impacts of change that are captured when you analyze passion growth trajectories. #entrepreneurialpassion #passionchange #passiongrowth #entrepreneurshipresearch #entrepreneurialteams #newventures
