In the world we live in, language shapes perception. Too often, Paralympians are labeled as "participants" rather than "competitors," subtly diminishing their achievements. These athletes train with the same intensity and dedication as any other athlete, and they deserve to be recognized as such. As we approach the Paralympics 2024, it's time to shift the narrative. Paralympians are not just participants—they are fierce competitors who push boundaries and redefine excellence. Let’s use language that reflects their true status and gives them the respect they've earned. Do you remember the spine-tingling moment at the Eiffel Tower? The #Paris2024 #Paralympics were nothing short of spectacular. From the thrilling sports performances to the vibrant atmosphere, it was an event that set a new benchmark for future Paralympics. One moment that stands out is France's blind football team winning gold under the bright lights of the Eiffel Tower. The national anthem echoed, and the crowd's energy was palpable. This moment was not just about the victory; it was about the immense respect and appreciation for the athletes. Reflecting on my conversations in Paris, it's clear that the Paralympic movement is gaining strong momentum. The upcoming games in LA and Brisbane are seen as opportunities rather than challenges. This shift in perspective is crucial for the future of the Paralympics. Here are three key takeaways from the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games: - Record-Breaking Achievements: Paris set new benchmarks, showcasing the potential of the Paralympic movement. - Community Engagement: The participation of families and groups created a unique and inclusive atmosphere. - Transformational Impact: The games highlighted the power of sport to drive societal change. As we look ahead, it's on us to carry forward the inspiration from Paris and ensure that the appreciation and applause translate into acceptance and action in our daily lives. #Paralympics #Inclusion #SportsInnovation

There are some standout performances from the #USA at the #Paralympics like #DanielRomanchuk's clutch finish in the Men's 5000m T54 but why is the strongest #Olympic team left far in the wake of teams like #China & the #UK? Paralympics in the #US have historically received less #attention, #funding, and institutional #support. While there have been improvements in recent years, the US Paralympic movement still faces challenges regarding #visibility and #resource allocation. The relative lack of #investment & #promotion of Paralympic sports compared to their Olympic counterparts means fewer #athletes with disabilities have access to the same training, facilities, and competitive opportunities. This disparity contributes to not performing as strongly, as the #infrastructure and #cultural emphasis that benefits #Olympic athletes are not as robustly extended to Paralympic sports. I am not sure if this position is also a symptom of a greater societal issue in terms of supporting people with disabilities or even one of a sports ecosystem which prioritises profit. Let's hope that #LA28 provide a watershed opportunity for a stepped improvement of #Para sport for #TeamUSA. #Paralympics #Paris2024 Paris 2024 - Comité d'organisation des Jeux Olympiques et Paralympiques de 2024 LA28 Olympic & Paralympic Games International Olympic Committee – IOC International Paralympic Committee TikTok Team GB ParalympicsGB

Post title: "Beyond the Spotlight: The Unseen Reality of Paralympians" We stand and applaud during the Paralympic games, we cheer for their victories, and laud the brands that support them. These moments create a buzz, a wave of support that seems to promise a better future for these extraordinary athletes. But what happens when the stadium lights dim, and the cheering crowds disperse? Despite numerous campaigns and government quotas, the harsh reality is that the lives of most Paralympians remain unchanged. We are quick to celebrate their successes but slow to offer them the acceptance and accommodation they genuinely deserve in our societies. The private sector, in particular, has a long way to go in this regard. Many corporate leaders have come and gone, and the river of time has continued to flow, yet the situation for our Paralympians remains stagnant. Their courage and tenacity deserve more than just applause during a sporting event; they deserve to be welcomed into all areas of life without hesitation or prejudice. I dream of a day when our society will extend its support beyond the sporting arena, a day when we can sit across the table from a Paralympian without a flicker of surprise or discomfort in our eyes. Only then can we truly claim to have progressed as a society. What are your thoughts? How can we, as individuals and organizations, better support and accommodate our Paralympians? #Paralympics #Inclusion #SocietalChange #CorporateResponsibility

The Paralympics have been inspiring… it puts life into perspective. The Indian Paralympian team had a great outing in Paris winning a total of 29 medals, seven of which were Gold. To put this achievement in perspective, the Indian Paralympics teams had won no medals at Beijing 2008 and one silver at London 2012. It is also important to mention the fact that the Indian Olympics team returned from Paris with a haul of six medals, none Gold. Millions of people live with disabilities in India, but most live without access to basic amenities that are essential to navigating everyday life with dignity let alone the luxury to play any sport. So, what has changed in this relatively short period of time for the Paralympians? 1. Partnership – government agencies and businesses have partnered to invest in para sport. The reach of the government coupled with the resources of enterprises has been the key to unlocking potential in a large country like India where sporting infrastructure is still inadequate. 2. Focus – 27 of the 29 medals were won in Athletics, Badminton and Shooting (and one each in Archery and Judo). Choosing to invest in a few sports that offer a greater chance of success has been important at the start of this journey. This success is meant to inspire more people and bring in further investment. 3. Role Modeling – and with increasing success and more role models to look up to, the mindset of people is changing. “The fact that there are people with disabilities who are excelling in sports also gives hope to the future generations" quoting disability rights activist Nipun Malhotra’s comments to the BBC. These lessons have application in other aspects of life and community where masses need to be engaged to create sustainable, path-breaking change and achieve critical outcomes. There is some way to go for India’s Paralympics team to catch-up with the likes of China, Great Britain and USA, but I am sure their performances in Paris will inspire more people and the future is only brighter. #paralympics #paris2024 #disabilitysport #india #largescalechange #leadership #impact

India's campaign at the Paris Paralympics 2024 has officially concluded with a groundbreaking achievement—29 medals in total: 7 gold, 9 silver, and 13 bronze! 🏅 Despite limited media attention and support, our athletes rose above the challenges, delivering incredible performances that made the country proud. Their journey is a reminder that success isn't defined by circumstances but by determination and grit. What stands out is the shift in how we, as a nation, are embracing sports beyond cricket. For the first time, we're seeing a growing excitement and support for our Paralympians. Though it’s not yet at the level of cricket, this campaign has sparked a promising change in our sports culture. India’s Top 20 finish at the Paralympics is a testament to the indomitable spirit of our athletes. Their success teaches us that no dream is too big, and no barrier is insurmountable when you are driven by passion and purpose.
