But there is no empirical evidence to justify these reasons. Keep local elections local - Solution #4: Confirm role of councillors The introduction of political parties in local elections could lead to situations where councillors disregard their legislative duties and only follow the interests of the political parties they represent. Legislative amendments should be made so that it is clear to councillors, once elected, that they are accountable to the whole municipality and the well-being of their community.
