ADB Fostering Inclusive Trade: Leveraging Free Trade Agreements to Protect Indigenous Peoples’ Rights in Asia and the Pacific [9 October 2024] https://lnkd.in/g3WwD7X8 or https://lnkd.in/gYH7KYSM This brief shows how free trade agreements (FTAs) can help safeguard traditional knowledge and genetic resources in Asia and the Pacific and protect the rights of Indigenous Peoples. The brief highlights the substantial presence of Indigenous Peoples in Asia and the Pacific and the importance of traditional knowledge and genetic resources for climate action, food security, and medicine, as well as language diversity and cultural heritage. It explains the shortfalls of existing FTAs and why they should be based on informed consent, equitable benefit sharing, and full source disclosure in patents. It details how some FTAs have included traditional knowledge and genetic resources and shows how trade deals can help Indigenous Peoples benefit from greater regional cooperation.

Fenech & Fenech invited to speak at the 'We are all connected in Shipping' Conference organised by WISTA International. Daniel-Luc Farrugia, Associate within the Marine Litigation Department, was invited to contribute to a panel discussion on the EU Emission Trading System hosted by WISTA Turkiye on April 19th in Istanbul. During the discussion, Daniel-Luc shared his views on the new challenges faced by the shipping industry as compliance with EU ETS transitions from preparation to implementation. He explained that the primary complexity lies in identifying which entity should be considered the 'shipping company' and, once identified, determining which administering authority it should be attributed to. Daniel-Luc was joined on the panel by Andreas Chrysostomou, Maria Theodoridou, Morgane Querel, Ali Ibrahim Kontaytekin, Katalin Dobránszky-Bartus, PhD and cihan ergenc. For any queries related to decarbonisation, specifically the EU ETS, please reach out to Ann Fenech or Daniel-Luc Farrugia by email on ann.fenech@fenechlaw.com or daniel.farrugia@fenechlaw.com #Shipping #EUETS #Decarbonisation WISTA International

As we gear up for the IAPH World Ports Conference in Hamburg, we put ports center stage! Many ports look into developing new business models - especially to make alternative fuels available to global shipping. South Africa can become one of the first movers. Developing these new business models however is complex. Read for yourself what infrastructure, policy and financial options government can consider: https://lnkd.in/ePhQmw7F
