Overview of Organic Farming Research Foundation (OFRF) The Organic Farming Research Foundation (OFRF) promotes organic farming through research, education, and advocacy, aiming to enhance the adoption of organic systems. OFRF supports initiatives such as farmer-led trials and grants to improve organic practices. Recent updates include reflections from a former intern on agricultural policy, insights into Technical Note 12 which aids organic farms, and the importance of organic methods on non-certified land for soil health and biodiversity. Highlights also feature farmer stories, including Salad Days Farm's participation in trials and Greentree Naturals’ commitment to community and sustainable practices. The impact of agrochemicals on soil health is also addressed, emphasizing the necessity of healthy soil for agro-ecosystem viability. How great was it to join organic legends Renée Elliott and Charles Redfern at @planetorganic last night to explore #regenerative and #organic agriculture. What a superb audience too! Here's a little of what we unpacked: 🚜 Regenerative agriculture has been inspired by organic and they share some common practices and goals ⛪ Regenerative still means different things to different people – it’s a broad church and can mean a mix of positive and not so positive practices such as use of herbicides. ♻ Organic tries to view the whole farm as one system and consider the compatibility of practices with that system 👨🌾 Although organic IS regenerative, there are some specific practices regenerative farmers have innovated that could become ‘best practice’ in organic. ✔ Organic is regulated and interdependently inspected and certified - so it's food you can trust. One of my pet peeves in agriculture is when I see farmers/institutions/companies touting their way of farming as "the best..." It very well may be for their own situation but rarely does it apply globally. This post illustrates a healthier perspective on how we should view growing food. Let's face it, growing food is not natural, unless you forage for berries and nuts! However, "A good farm minimizes negative impacts, and contains them to the farm while also maximizing positive impacts, and extends them beyond the farm." Thoughts? https://lnkd.in/eg8NVRJF
