Go Eco's commitment to honouring Te Tiriti o Waitangi—embracing its four articles as guiding principles—reflects our understanding of Te Tiriti in Aotearoa and our shared journey toward climate resilience and equity. By closing our hub this Thursday, we're reaffirming our solidarity with tangata whenua and the intent of Te Tiriti o Waitangi. This step reinforces the vital role of Tangata Tiriti in upholding Te Tiriti and aligning climate justice with social justice. Engaging in national actions for Te Tiriti allows Go Eco to amplify voices calling for systemic changes that honour Māori self-determination and environmental resilience. Supporting such events is integral to responsible, inclusive employer practices. The theme of #TeWikioteReoMāori this year is Ake Ake Ake (a forever language) so we thought we'd share a whakatauki that is relevant to the concept of sustainability and the three words that are central to our kaupapa - Whakawhirinaki (Trust), Whakamanawa, (Confidence) and Whakamārama (Accountability).   Whatungarongaro te tangata, toitū te whenua As people disappear from sight, the land remains This whakatauki speaks to the importance and permanence of land. While people come and go, the land remains. As humans we rely on the land. We must think long-term and see the big picture to ensure the sustainability of the land.

On this day in 1835, He Whakaputanga o te Rangatiratanga o Nū Tīreni was signed, asserting Māori sovereignty and establishing New Zealand as an independent Māori nation. We acknowledge Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its four articles as the primary text, to be upheld alongside He Whakaputanga o te Rangatiratanga o Nū Tīrene. We affirm that hapū in Aotearoa never ceded tino rangatiratanga. Go Eco recognises the vital role of iwi, hapū, and whānau in realising kaitiakitanga and their aspirations for their rohe. We are committed to building meaningful relationships, engaging in constitutional transformation, and pursuing the recommendations of the Matike Mai report. We are committed to decolonisation and developing Tangata Tiriti practices as an organisation. We strive to create a workplace that acknowledges, supports, and prioritises Te Ao Māori, recognising our position as manuwhiri in this whenua. Aotearoa falls behind other Western liberal democracies in realising Indigenous peoples’ self-determination, and we are committed to seizing opportunities to act in solidarity. Change requires recognising the dynamic power within communities and addressing inequities and environmental harm rooted in dominant systems. Solidarity means trusting communities to know the solutions and respecting their systemic knowledge.
