Sustainability in healthcare isn’t just a buzzword—it’s a necessity. 🌍 At the recent Bursa PLC Investor Relations Series 17 webinar, our Group Head of Sustainability, Yasemin Tecmen Stubbe, shared valuable insights into IHH Healthcare's sustainability journey and practical steps for embedding these practices into organisational culture. “Driving sustainability in any organisation is like climbing Mount Everest. It takes patience, persistence, and a systematic approach to reach the summit, one basecamp at a time.” Yasemin shared. Her message was clear: driving sustainable practices requires not just a commitment from leadership but also buy-in across the organisation. At IHH Healthcare, we’ve built a robust governance structure to keep our sustainability efforts on track, holding ourselves accountable to goals that span across our Patients, People, Public and Planet pillars. Some highlights from the webinar include: Environmental Stewardship: From capping Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2025 to baseline Scope 3 emissions by 2027, we remain steadfast on our journey towards Net Zero by 2050. Cultural Transformation: Over 90% of our employees have completed sustainability awareness training, fostering a shared commitment to change. Tackle reporting requirements systematically: Identify gaps, prioritise actions and make incremental progress Yasemin also emphasised the role of cultural change: “Shared commitment starts with shared understanding. Training, communication, and collaborations with other organisations are essential to driving meaningful impact.” Thank you to Bursa Malaysia for the platform to discuss these vital topics. Do we need a Sustainability Award? The German Sustainability Award (DNP) demonstrates yesterday how sustainability can be celebrated in style: with 1300 participants, including 900 guests at a glamorous evening event featuring a blue carpet similar of the Oscars. The idea of putting sustainability in the spotlight and recognizing achievements is undoubtedly a good one. In particular, the finalists from the healthcare sector truly deserved their recognition. Congrats! However, after attending on Friday my impression is mixed... The conference content? Unfortunately, quite superficial and not particularly helpful for those of us deeply involved in sustainability and healthcare. The networking effect? Certainly valuable! Meeting so many passionate actors was enjoyable and inspiring. But the audience? Primarily nominees or participants with free tickets. A broad cross-section of relevant stakeholders was notably absent. The larger issue, though, lies in the lack of transparency: application processes and selection criteria remain unclear (Spiegel article). This harms both the credibility and acceptance of such awards, not only within the sustainability community but also beyond. We need that acceptance! Not just to celebrate ourselves but to push the decision-makers in power to take action. Sustainability must not remain a green façade. It should be embedded in risk management, strategic leadership, and business models! Not merely treated as a box to tick for sustainability reporting. To achieve this, we need awards that are credible, professional, and transparent. Only then can we collectively showcase our strength and position sustainability as what it truly is: future management. What do you think? Are the current approaches enough, or do we need significant reforms? Are there similar awards in your country, and if so, how are they organized? Could we learn from each other to improve these initiatives? Perhaps my most important question: Do we need an award focused specifically on the european healthcare sector? Let’s discuss!

🌍 HealthTech and Sustainability: The Opportunities and Challenges for the Sector 🌱 It is crucial that we recognise the impact the healthcare sector has on our environment, and as professionals within this industry, we have a responsibility to reduce our environmental footprint. NHS England's Net Zero Roadmap outlines ambitious requirements that suppliers must meet in order to work with the health system to reduce emissions and whilst the industry is supportive of these goals, the path to net zero is not straightforward. Recent months have seen us engage closely with our members and stakeholders through roundtables and interviews to address barriers and foster advancements in sustainability. The outcomes of these discussions are compiled in our latest publication 👇 This paper offers strategic recommendations to the NHS, government, and the MHRA, aimed at enhancing HealthTech's sustainability efforts. Collaboration is key to ensuring these recommendations are implemented effectively and support is scaled appropriately. As a living document, we will continue to update our findings and recommendations regularly to remain current and actionable. We invite industry professionals and stakeholders to engage with us, discuss our findings, and contribute to shaping a sustainable future. 🖊️ Paper penned by ABHI's Addie MacGregor.

‼️EDUCATE YOUR CLIENTS! Highlight how #sustainability benefits their business! 🍃 Many European retailers and markets demand more sustainable products from #FoodManufacturers, and rightfully so. Dr. Martin Bethke's recent posts illustrate why manufacturers must consciously consider these pivotal business aspects. However, outside Europe, particularly in the #MiddleEast and #SouthEastAsia, other priorities often overshadow sustainability in business. 👨🏫 🎓 Food manufacturers must educate their clients on how sustainability will benefit their businesses. Here are key points to explain: • Waste Reduction: Implementing waste reduction strategies can lower disposal costs and boost efficiency. • Competitive Edge: Leading in sustainability differentiates a brand, especially as global demand for sustainable products grows. • Customer Loyalty: Consumers, especially younger ones, increasingly favor brands committed to sustainability. • Global Appeal: Sustainable practices attract environmentally conscious consumers worldwide, opening new export opportunities. • Supply Chain Stability: Sustainable sourcing practices make supply chains more resilient to disruptions from environmental factors, resource scarcity, or regulatory changes. • Innovation and Efficiency: Sustainability drives innovation in production processes, improving efficiency and reducing costs. • New Product Development: There’s potential for creating eco-friendly products to meet growing consumer demand. • Investor Appeal: Investors increasingly consider Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) criteria. Companies with strong sustainability practices attract these investors. • Workforce Morale: Companies prioritizing sustainability often see higher employee satisfaction and morale. • Talent Attraction: Younger professionals seek employers with strong sustainability credentials, helping attract top talent. • Positive Community Relations: Sustainable practices improve relations with local communities, leading to better cooperation and support. • Environmental Benefits: Reducing environmental impact helps preserve ecosystems and resources, benefiting the planet. • Sustainable Growth: Long-term environmental stewardship ensures sustained growth and profitability. In summary, while sustainability may not be an immediate priority in some regions, its long-term benefits enhance a business’s efficiency, marketability, and resilience, leading to greater profitability and success. What other benefits can you think of? Let me know… 👇🏼 _____________________________________ I am Jannis Theileis - Your Food Gladiator Liked this post?
