🎓 PhD Viva Successfully Defended 🎓 I am pleased to share that I have successfully defended my #PhD thesis with minimal corrections. This milestone represents years of dedication, hard work, and perseverance, and I am deeply grateful to everyone who supported me throughout this journey. I would like to extend my sincere thanks to my supervisor, Dr. Prashant Saxena, for his invaluable guidance, expertise, and encouragement. I am also deeply appreciative of my examiners, Prof. Mokarram Hossain and Dr. Ankush Aggarwal, for their insightful feedback and for conducting a rigorous yet engaging viva. PhD Title: Modelling #Piezoresistive Behaviour in Finitely Deformed Elastomeric #Composites A key contribution of my research is the development of two modelling frameworks, which are freely shared: #Computational Model: A nonlinear #FEA framework, written in #deal.II, compiled as the "madeal" code package. Madeal is designed for the #hyperelastic deformation of compressible and nearly incompressible materials using both classical single-field and three-field mixed formulations. It handles 3D and 2D configurations, generates 2D composite RVEs, and applies both Affine and Periodic Boundary Conditions. The Madeal code package is #open_source and available here: https://lnkd.in/efSzp7Ar Analytical Model: An Extended Equivalent Inclusion Method for predicting electrical conductivity in composites. The Mathematica file for electrical conductivity is available here: https://lnkd.in/eYvZyfDC Additionally, my thesis will soon be available as an open-source resource from the University of Glasgow. This achievement is a significant step toward the next phase of my career, and I am excited about the opportunities that lie ahead. Thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey!

😊 My name is Christiane Roller. I work at the Institute of Polymer Composites at the Hamburg University of Technology on project A05, which focusses on tailoring electrodes for biochemical reactions. My favorite color is black, so of course my electrodes are made from carbon. 🚀 The focus of my work is on synthesizing, optimizing and functionalizing different types of carbon nano structures. These will be used as electrodes in a SMART bio-electrochemical reactor. 💡During my material science masters degree I learned about different types of materials, how the properties are directly related to the manufacturing methods and how this has an impact on the performance and applications of the final material. I think that is pretty cool. For my PhD project I am now able to work with not only polymers, but also ceramics for creating novel carbon structures. By adding metals and metal oxides to the carbon nano structures we functionalize them and work with a third type of material. This gives me the chance of connecting many different fields and a lot of knowledge. 🌍 To change the world, I want to make a contribution to the understanding of material interaction, here between a porous carbon electrode and the biofilm which are used for building a SMART bioreactor. 🤝 If I were to describe the CRC in three words they would be: 🔹challenging, 🔹communicative, and 🔹captivating. #SMARTreactors #TUHH #Technischistdasmöglich #TUHamburg #engineeringtofaceclimatechange

The experimental teaching of materials science and engineering (MSE) is important because the comprehensive applications and the practical knowledge of the professionals are not only an important way for undergraduate students to grasp the knowledge but also to understand the purpose of the study. In order to cultivate students' ability to solve complex engineering problems, more comprehensive experiments should be designed. Besides the essential basic experiments in the first few chapters, most of the experiments designed in this book are comprehensive, hence the title. This book authored by Fei Ye, Chengzhu Liao, Hua Cheng, Jianbo Zhang, Haiou Wang, Yanyan Li, Huili Li, and Jing Ming (all authors from Southern University of Science and Technology, China) breaks the boundaries in the experimental courses of MSE. The experiments in this book are modularized into five parts, including preliminary exploration of materials science and engineering, fundamentals of chemistry and crystallography, material properties, material preparation and treatment, and material applications. Besides the experiments, the appendices will describe the most relevant aspects of experimental safety, error, and data presentation in a general way. The contents and requirements of the experimental report are suggested. At the end of each chapter, a list of books, journal articles, and websites is provided for extended reading on the topics covered in the chapter. This book covers the main contents of experimental courses of MSE. The experiments cover the forefront of scientific research and the materials industry with appropriate modification. It intends to serve as a textbook for undergraduate students and aims to help teachers find a wide enough variety of experiments to construct in an experimental course.
