🎉 Exciting news from Pupil Bio! They have been awarded $250,464 by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), specifically the National Institutes of Health and the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases. This funding will support the development of an early detection test for Type 1 Diabetes using NGS-based analysis of cell-specific methylation patterns in cfDNA. This innovative approach aims to identify cell death during the asymptomatic stages of T1D, providing a valuable diagnostic tool for early detection and intervention. #SBIR #STTR #HealthcareInnovation 🔬 The research, which falls under the category of a project grant, will span approximately 6 months, starting on September 2, 2024, and concluding on February 28, 2025. Pupil Bio's groundbreaking work could revolutionize how we detect and manage Type 1 Diabetes, potentially delaying critical islet mass loss and improving patient outcomes. Kudos to the team for their dedication to advancing medical science! #MedicalResearch #DiabetesAwareness #Innovation

Today is #MDS World Awareness Day!🩸🌎 In an interview from earlier this year, Klaus Metzeler, MD, Leipzig University outlines the challenges with accurately diagnosing & risk-stratifying patients with #MDS 🎥 #Classification systems exist to define disease entities; however, groups of patients with #biologically similar diseases often may not have the same #prognosis, suggesting prognostic classification is also needed 🤔 Patients can further be stratified to aid in treatment decisions and allow #clinicians to adopt a risk-adapted treatment strategy. Dr Metzeler emphasizes that clinicians must get used to an increasing level of complexity as #classificationsystems (and the definition of #MDS itself) continue to evolve 🔦 Learn more 👉 https://ow.ly/htwk50TlQhT #MDSWAD2024 #bloodcount #HemOnc #MDSsm #Hematologynews

Ophthopedia Update:Assessment of Missing Data on Glaucoma Severity Among Participants in the NIH All of Us Research Program of the United States: Précis: There were statistically significant differences across multiple socioeconomic characteristics and self-reported barriers to care among primary glaucoma patients with severity staging data versus those missing this data in the NIH All of Us database. Purpose: To characterize missing data among glaucoma patients within All of Us. Materials and Methods: We used diagnosis codes to define cohorts of primary glaucoma patients with and without severity staging specified. Descriptive analyses were conducted by presence of disease severity stage. Analysis of missing data was conducted using a set intersection plot and the Little Test of Missing Completely at Random. T tests were performed to evaluate differences. Results: Of 2982 participants, 1714 (57%) did not have glaucoma severity stage specified, and 11 of 23 analyzed variables had missing data. The Little Test indicated data was not missing completely at random (P #Ophthalmology #Eye #Ophthotwitter

Polycythemia, or erythrocytosis, is a blood disorder that occurs when the body has too many red blood cells. This causes the blood to thicken and become more difficult to flow, leading to serious health problems such as Blood clots, Blood cancers, etc. Polycythemia can increase the risk of blood clots forming in blood vessels, which can lead to strokes or tissue and organ damage. JCMR is accepting submissions for the upcoming issue! Submit your work via clinicalresearch@maplesjournals.com Don't miss out on this opportunity to contribute to advancing clinical medicine knowledge! Submit your manuscript today! NEW REG Publication! We are delighted to share our latest publication, “The Interstitial Lung Disease Patient Pathway: From Referral to Diagnosis”, now available in ERJ Open Research. This study was led by REG researcher Dr. Graham Lough, alongside Principal Investigator Dr. Pilar Rivera Ortega. The research aimed to explore and compare the ILD patient pathways across specialist and non-specialist centres, as well as between different regions. The study focussed on key areas such as referrals, caseloads, diagnostic tools, multi-disciplinary team (MDT) meeting practices, and resource availability. The study was based on a comprehensive global survey, receiving 363 responses from ILD specialists and healthcare professionals across 64 countries. The findings highlighted significant differences in diagnostic pathways, with disparities in access to resources (such as antifibrotic therapies, clinical trials and specialist expertise) across centres and countries of varying income levels. We extend our deepest gratitude to all collaborators and contributors who made this study possible. https://lnkd.in/eqh5b23z #ILD #RWE #research #MDT #IPF

Up to 80% of the cancer patients are malnourished during cancer treatment. Malnutrition in cancer patients contributes to treatment toxicities, impaired quality of life, and reduced survival. The consequences of malnutrition are compounded among cancer patients with food and nutrition insecurity. Food is medicine interventions can play an important role in improving cancer outcomes and reducing cancer disparities. Join us for the upcoming Food is Medicine in Oncology Care symposium discuss strategies to integrate food and nutrition into oncology care!
🗓️ 📣 Upcoming event in food is medicine! The Food is Medicine in Oncology Care Symposium is being hosted by the NutriCare Research Team, with support from the Harvard Law School Center for Health Law and Policy Innovation, the American Cancer Society, The Ohio State University College of Medicine, and the Food is Medicine Institute . This one-day event on December 5th, 2024 will bring together researchers, healthcare providers, patient advocates, and community leaders to explore the critical role of food is medicine in oncology care. Today is the annual Clinical Trials Day – a day to honour clinical research that is crucial for both individual patients and society as a whole. As we know, access to clinical trials may be the last straw for patients to overcome their disease, for example in cancers or neurological diseases, when no treatment is yet available or existing therapies are ineffective. 👨⚕️ The Medfiles Clinical Team is happy to be part of several ongoing and coming trials. We celebrate the sponsors, sites, study nurses, investigators, other CROs and above all – the patients – who make it all possible. Let’s keep up the good work and co-operation! #CTD2024 #clinicaltrials #clinicalresearch #clinicalinvestigation
