“Every type of insulation is nothing more than trapped air in a different wrapper," says David Boyer, PROSOCO CEO. "AAC traps bubbles of air through the depth of the wall, wrapped in concrete. AAC’s inherent aversion to cracking creates its own inherent air barrier. Dan Levy (pictured) has opted to protect the rough openings to avoid any potential for the transfer and accumulation of liquid water beneath window, door, and other items that extend through the wall mass." Read more about autoclaved aerated concrete (AAC) and how Dan Levy is using it to build super-energy-efficient Passive House-certified homes. https://hubs.ly/Q02xBvJg0

A new, furry coat for #buildings: Oak Ridge National Laboratory’s Bryan Maldonado is fast-tracking #energyefficiency improvements. He is part of a team that developed a real-time evaluator tool to guide the precise, fast installation of energy-efficient wall panels to improve thermal insulation in older buildings. “More than 50% of US residential buildings have minimal or no thermal insulation,” Maldonado said. “One way to address this is by installing, or retrofitting, prefabricated panels with lower-carbon embodied materials and greater efficiency over the existing envelope. Basically, the solution for making an old building energy-efficient is to put a new, furry coat around it.” https://lnkd.in/eHaEf2Jr
