Love this interview with an eye opening insight on the life of Alberto Galassi, CEO of Ferretti Group and how RIVA at the beginning and Ferretti later where a constant part of his life. He did an amazing job in completely reshaping the Ferretti Group. But there is a part of the article that I liked the most: At the end the article he focusses on the usage of yacht after Covid saying that it is increased a lot. My view on this is the following: Yachts today are used 120/140 days a year some of them doing the season in the Med during the summer and Caribs or Gulf area (altrough the recent Huothi attack reduced this pattern quite a lot) during the winter. I agree as Alberto underlined that this has a lot to do with the new mindset of the Uber reach generation but I think that there is also another trigger to this: communication! Today thanks to low moving satellite technology like Starlink (and many others are following) it is possible to have a good Internet connection also at sea. The truth is that the new internet connection has reduced terribly the latency and increased the speed of the connection. Yacht owner today and business in general never sleeps and compared to 30 years ago you would never be able to take a vacation if you had to live without internet. Sometime people complain about the cost of the connection but if you compare the rate fo Starlink to a decent VSAT plan (which was the only technology available till few years back) it's less then 10%-20% of that rate and the internet works way better. #ferrettigroup #uberrich #albertogalassi #rivayacht #communication

The access to Europe is essential in order to attract the best research talents for our universities! What is the problem? We at HEC Lausanne - The Faculty of Business and Economics of the University of Lausanne recruit our professors internationally and when we make an offer to a top-notch professor, they often have offers from other universities in Europe and one of the criteria to decide whether to come to us is to have access to funding sources for their research. So accepting a professor position in Switzerland can be less attractive because we do not have access to Horizon Europe funding (at least not all of it). Luckily, the Swiss National Science Foundation SNSF offers great funding opportunities still, but we definitely would be in a better position as universities, if we had access to Horizon Europe! Beat Jans did not mention this aspect in his speech, but it was still very interesting and reassuring to hear his positive outlook on the negotiations between Switzerland and the EU. Thanks to Lucerne Dialogue for organizing the event. #europe #businessschool #research
As tradition holds, the Annual Meeting of the Lucerne Dialogue was officially opened by a Federal Councillor. This year, we were honored to welcome Beat Jans, who delivered an inspiring opening speech that set the tone for this year’s discussions. In our exclusive interview after his speech on the Lucerne Dialogue stage, you can find out what kind of Europe Federal Councillor Beat Jans would like to see and what we need to do today so that Europe can preserve its strengths. The event marking the 30th anniversary of the federal government's recognition of a distinct cultural group is significant, especially as it coincides with the King’s visit to Samoa for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM). This meeting has traditionally focused on issues such as climate change and ocean protection, which are critical for many member nations, particularly those in the Pacific that are experiencing the impacts of environmental changes. However, the legacy of colonialism remains a pressing topic that has yet to be thoroughly discussed at this gathering. Reports indicate that British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is resistant to addressing this issue, despite growing calls within the UK for the government to acknowledge and apologize for its colonial past. Patricia Scotland, the Secretary-General of the Commonwealth, emphasized that while the topic of colonialism may not be formally on the agenda, Commonwealth leaders have the freedom to discuss any issue of importance to them. She highlighted the trust and open communication among member nations, reaffirming that any member can raise any topic they choose during discussions. This flexibility allows for a broader dialogue that can include sensitive historical issues alongside pressing contemporary challenges. As the Commonwealth family consists of 56 diverse members, the opportunity for leaders to engage in meaningful conversations about their shared history and contemporary issues is vital for fostering understanding and collaboration moving forward. https://lnkd.in/gjP6bmpC
