The holiday season is a time to count our blessings, generously share with others, reflect on the year’s accomplishments, and plan for the year ahead. For those of us that work in public health, we have much to be thankful for. Public health professionals across Illinois have worked tirelessly this past year to keep our residents safe from illness and disease, ensure our communities have access to clean water and air, and help our neighborhoods thrive and prosper. We can all take pride in knowing that our communities are safer and healthier because of the vitally important work that public health professionals do. The year ahead is likely to bring both new challenges and opportunities for public health in Illinois. In 2025, the Illinois Public Health Association (IPHA) will continue to advance the work of public health for all Illinois communities. We will lead public health advocacy efforts, workforce development, professional education, public health programming, and more. In short, we will continue to be the voice for public health in Illinois. To continue our success, we need your help and support. On this Giving Tuesday, we ask that you assist our public health efforts across Illinois with a generous donation. We cannot face the challenges and opportunities ahead without adequate funding to advance our efforts. So please, make an investment in your profession, and in protecting the health of our communities by donating to IPHA. You can make a one-time donation or establish a monthly donation by clicking here. All donations, large and small, will help protect and promote public health in Illinois. Thank you for your kindness and generosity, and for the passion and dedication to protecting the health and wellbeing of all Illinoisans. ipha.com

The Empathy Toolkit also includes a Belittling Agility Narrowing Device (BAND). In the workbook, students are told to wrap the device around the back of their hand, around their pinky finger and thumb. This will give their hand limited mobility, mimicking the effects of paralysis, joint issues or injury. They are then tasked with performing every-day tasks such as teeth-brushing, with the BAND in place. They then switch hands, do it again, and record their thoughts. We need some help to continue distributing the Empathy Toolkits. Please consider a tax-deductible donation to Lifetime of Impact, a project of San Francisco Public Health Foundation. https://lnkd.in/gRmkSRqw

The Empathy Toolkit workbook includes an exercise designed to offer a very small feeling of helplessness. During workshops, students do this while I tell a story, but at home they are instructed to do this: Raise your arm high into the air. Put it down when you feel uncomfortable. A helpless patient who relies on others to help them doesn't have that luxury. This time, put your arm up, but instead of YOU deciding when to put it down, the CLOCK will decide for you. Hold your arm up for: 1 minute 5 minutes 10 minutes 30 minutes When your arm stops aching, record your thoughts. We need some help to continue distributing the Empathy Toolkits. In healthcare, excellence is not just a goal—it's a continual journey. While healthcare professionals work tirelessly to advance patient care, philanthropy plays an equally critical role in shaping the future of healthcare, driving innovation, and improving lives. National Philanthropy Day is recognized worldwide to celebrate philanthropy and those who give. At the SJRH Foundation, we see every single day of the year how donors help provide the resources needed for state-of-the-art technology, research and critical patient services that go beyond what is covered by traditional funding sources. Today's healthcare challenges are complex. However, our donor community continues to fund solutions to these challenges, support our dedicated hospital staff, and invest in continuous patient care and outcomes improvement. Philanthropy in healthcare is not just an act of giving—it's an investment in a healthier tomorrow. And for that, we are endlessly grateful. So on this special day, and every other day of the year, we say THANK YOU. #NationalPhilanthropyDay #ThankYou #MakingADifference #HealthcareHeroes #PhilanthropyMatters

🌟 Welcome to Connecting Pieces: Empowering Lives, Building Hope 🌟 We’re excited to introduce Connecting Pieces, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting individuals and families affected by gastrointestinal chronic illnesses, rare diseases, ostomies, and disabilities. Our mission is to empower those we serve through education, support, and access to essential resources. We’re guided by our core pillars—Gather, Uplift, and Trust (G.U.T)—and envision a world where no one faces these challenges alone. Why We Exist: Our founder, Keyla Ire, turned her battle with Crohn's disease into a beacon of hope. She saw the need for a compassionate network that supports both the medical and emotional needs of those facing similar challenges. What We Do: - Provide essential ostomy supplies to those in need. - Offer virtual expression and cooking classes to foster creativity and connection. - Support evacuees in hard-to-reach areas with vital resources. How You Can Help: Join us in making a difference. Whether you’re a healthcare professional, volunteer, or someone who wants to help, there’s a place for you in our community. Follow us for updates, stories of hope, and ways to get involved. #ConnectingPieces #IBDSupport #ChronicIllness #Nonprofit #Community
