D.C. Superior Court is one of the busiest courts in the country, with its Family Court Operations Division alone receiving 10,000 new filings in 2023. Navigating the city’s trial court can be overwhelming for pro se litigants, both physically and procedurally. To improve the public’s experience with the judicial system, the DC Courts partnered with YOUTOPIAN and the D.C. Bar Pro Bono Center to develop the Virtual District of Columbia Court Interactive Website, a 360-degree tour of the court campus. Director I Managing Partner I Accredited Specialist Criminal Defence Lawyer I Award Winning Advocate
Yesterday I appeared online at Sale Magistrates' Court. I had forgotten that Court has the practice of clerks calling a matter on and also announcing that case is "to be followed by the matter of XX" This is a terrific practice as it allows those clients/practitioners involved in the next matter to enter the courtroom (if outside) or otherwise be ready to go as soon as the matter is called on. We have all sat in court waiting for clients/practitioners who aren't present to show up, casually exchanging glances with the bench and each other noting that we are all here... Not only is it incredibly frustrating for those present and ready, the amount of time a Magistrate spends sitting in court waiting for people must add up to hours over the course of a year. It would be great to see this simple practice implemented at other Court venues. #efficiency #courts #timemanagement
