Did you grow up with a parent with Borderline Personality Disorder? OCD isn’t enjoyable !! It’s not about loving cleaning, organizing, or color coding. It’s not about being “obsessed” with something because you love it. OCD isn’t enjoyable or a “good thing” at all because it’s a disorder. Specifically, it’s a disorder characterized obsessions and compulsions in which a person has repetitive, unwanted, terrible intrusive thoughts which prompt them to perform irrational compulsions in order to temporarily alleviate the anxiety/ discomfort caused by those thoughts. Anything can become fodder for OCD and lead to obsessions and compulsions AND a lot of compulsions aren’t even visible -they’re purely mental. OCD doesn’t limit itself to cleaning or color-coding items. It will attack whatever a person values or loves most and turn it into their worst nightmare. It’s a disorder that keeps ups trapped in our own heads and can make us avoid everything and everyone we love until our worlds shrink so small that all we know is OCD. It’s a disorder that debilitates and tortures and, without the right treatment, can and does take lives. The next time you hear OCD being used colloquially, please remember words and language matter. OCD is so much more than the stereotype and it’s not a good thing to have or be a little of. It’s a heartbreaking disorder and requires specialized treatment with a specialist utilizing Exposure & Response Prevention (ERP). When we use OCD to mean something good we not only trivialize the very real struggles people with OCD go through, but prevent those who need from accessing it either due to shame, stigma or a lack of understand of what OCD is. . #ocd #ocdawareness #ocdlife #ocdsupport #toc #anxietyawareness #anxietyhealing #anxietyhelp #realocd #ocdisnotanadjective #ocdtherapy #intrusivethoughts #ocdwarrior #pureo #ocdrecovery #anxietyattack #mentalhealthmatters #mentalhealthawareness #ocdtherapy #rumination #instamentalhealth

When children and teenagers pick at their skin or pull at their hair so much that they hurt themselves — leaving scabs or bald spots — they often say they can’t stop, even if they’re embarrassed or being bullied by other kids because of it. That’s because doing these things makes them feel better in a hard-to-understand way. These disorders include trichotillomania (hair-pulling) and excoriation (skin-picking). Experts call them body focused repetitive behaviors (BFRBs), and kids use them to alleviate stress. BFRBs are not the same as self-injury, when kids cut, burn, or scratch themselves to intentionally cause pain. But self-injury is also a response to difficult feelings. Our one-on-one cognitive and behavioral training can help them to manage the stress and the root causes of all their emotional issues.
