During the past 15 years I have worked with many 🇪🇺 cities in numerous workshops, where we defined and discussed the barriers to implementation of climate action plans, SUMPS and other sustainability plans. The challenges were almost always the same, no matter the size of the city: 🗣️ lack of internal cooperation and communication 👩💻 no consistent monitoring and evaluation of action plans 💃 difficulties in involving stakeholders 💶 lack of funding The Kausal platform supports cities to address the first three challenges in a very practical way, but the last one is crucial for cities to even start working with us! 📖 Read on our blog some thoughts on securing financing for climate solutions in cities - and please reach out for a chat, if you think we could discuss this further!
Do you know what's often the biggest challenge for cities pursuing climate action? Securing funding and resources to drive meaningful change. Climate solutions require innovative approaches, strategic partnerships, and creative funding strategies. Our latest blog post reveals how cities can transform funding challenges into opportunities for sustainable urban development. #InTheNews - Op-ed ✍️ "Most of the cities are ill-equipped to tackle these #climaterisks. A lack of clearly mandated roles in climate response, insufficient financial allocations, and limited institutional capacities exacerbate this challenge. To enable transformative, city-led #climateaction, it is essential to align Nationally Determined Contributions (#NDCs) and Sustainable Development Goals (#SDGs) with the specific needs and capacities of cities. This requires designing enabling frameworks to help urban areas build #climateresilience", writes Ms Sonal Singh, Research Associate, TERI - The Energy and Resources Institute, in her op-ed for Daily Pioneer. 📰 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 👉 https://lnkd.in/g_Bp7SuQ #ClimateChange #UrbanResilience #SustainableCities #ClimateAdaptation #ClimateMitigation #UrbanPlanning #ClimatePolicy #ClimateFinance

When it comes to urban adaptation to climate change, the importance of an integrated vision should be umphasised. ‘Urban development must address climate adaptation while simultaneously promoting equity, sustainability, and livability’, this was the subject of a talk given by Professor Angélica Benatti Alvim at Mackenzie University during the "Climate Change -The Challenge of Global Cooperation for Urban Adaptation" conference. It is essential to consider how environmental regulations may be compromised due to institutional-political interests/priorities as well as recognising conflicts between climate governance and planning. This research has been part the project. #CIAM Clima. https://lnkd.in/e5qixYJn She called for 4 actions: integration of multiple scales and sectors; action by different federative entities and actors; multi-scalar governance approach; a future vision for collective construction. We visited a number of sites, ranging from farming communities to favelas and disadvantaged neighborhoods during the conference which highlighted the significance of this integrated approach in any adaptation planning and governance, especially in the Global South. #WSDP BrUKInd #CIAM Clima #climateadaptation #climategovernance #urbanresilience #globalsouth #globalnorth Renato Anelli Dr. Suresh Kumar Rohilla @Ana Paola Koury Chris Maidment @Balaji Narasimhan @B.S.Murty

With the amount of exploitation that happens in the gloabl south perhaps the foreign national and private companies that are engaging in extraction should have heavier controls on their emissions and waste to promote sustainable development

🤝 The key to successful urban climate action? Partnerships. Cities are both ground zero for climate impacts AND our best hope for climate solutions. With 70% of the world's population projected to live in urban areas by 2050, how we transform our cities today will define our climate future. Cities need to move beyond siloed approaches and embrace collaboration across: - Local communities - Businesses - Research institutions - Government bodies 💡 The most successful city climate strategies share three critical elements: - Co-creation with citizens - Integration of social, economic & environmental priorities - Long-term partnerships across sectors Read the full article here: 🔗https://shorturl.at/etaLZ #UrbanPlanning #ClimateAction #Sustainability #SmartCities #ClimateResilience #CityInnovation #UrbanDevelopment

🆕 blog post out! Urbanisation, climate change and extreme weather phenomena are posing several challenges to our cities which can lead all of us to costly damages. Coping with these risks is a persistent challenge! Our cities have to go through a big transformation to be able to mitigate these climate and environmental shocks. The urban energy sector has to also be transformed by adopting more sustainable and resilient urban solutions to address these diverse environmental impacts. 💡 These smart solutions must address supply-demand mismatches and uncertainties from intermittent energy sources and climate crises. On this topic, we are pleased to host a guest article from two experts; Kavan Javanroodi (assistant professor) and Vahid Nik (professor) from the Lund University. This is why more dialogues and collaborations between mayors and provincial/state governments need to happen, because higher levels of government have impacts on what cities can afford or are allowed to do/change to solve this increasing problem

6moAll of the things mentioned in this article will exacerbate the crisis, all investment into the urban environment must be regenerative and mitigate at the same time, this means no more new building in the global north that aren’t based on sufficiency, redestribution and renovation of existing building mass. Terma like ESG,CSDR,SBTi etc are all greenwashing schams designed to continue overproduction and overconsumption. I great way to understand this is that there is no measurable targets for the planetary boundaries as they 6 out of 9 are in overshoot, therefore only urban intervention that reduce the pressures on these can and should be invested in.
