#ThrowbackThursday It’s hard to believe that one year ago, in collaboration with Honda, the Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA), Genwave Technologies Inc., Cisco, and Eagle Aerospace Ltd., Illuminex AI participated in the first public demonstration of our technology, an autonomous perimeter security inspection solution (PIDS) at Toronto Pearson Airport. This demonstration highlighted the potential for sensor fusion AI to enhance airfield safety and security. Over the past year, we've built on the insights gained from this project, further refining our AI-based inspection systems and expanding our offerings. In addition to perimeter integrity, our AI detection capabilities now include Human and Animal incursion and Foreign Object Debris (FOD) detection. The collaboration with our partners has been vital to this progress. The future of warfare is evolving incredibly rapidly! And the technologies that enable it as also changing dramatically. While humans appear to still be in the loop right now with most robotic combat situations, I think most militaries are realizing that "mission assigned" autonomous robots are an inevitability. This is uncharted waters and has major implications on many levels. At minimum I see the following technologies are going to be accelerated and "fought" over. 1) Advanced materials and composites - designed to be lightweight yet strong and durable 2) Miniaturization and precision engineering - for all range of robot parts and components 3) Energy Storage - High density battery tech or alternatives is a massive advantage to control 4) Rapid prototyping and Manufacturing technologies - Ability to rapidly change parts and use based on changing needs 5) Artificial Intelligence and Machine learning - Better, Faster, Smarter 6) Recycling - especially on the rare and expensive materials used for batteries 7) Global Satellite Internet - ability to command and control anywhere in the world. DASA has launched a new Themed Competition: Innovation in Support of Operations Funded by the Ministry of Defence there is up to £2 million (excluding VAT) funding available for novel ideas. Three competition cycles closing on 10 September, 22 October and 3 December Challenge 1: Novel and enhanced scale complex manufacture of materiel We are looking for new ways to: - improve the capability and performance of materiel - increase volume of materiel - reduce the cost or extend the life of materiel Challenge 2: Autonomous system navigation and applique options - We are seeking ways to make legacy ground vehicles operate with basic autonomy. We are also seeking new UAS navigation solutions that can interface with industry standard architecture. Challenge 3: Wide-area sense and detect We are looking for reduced cost, low probability of intercept, wide-area sense and detect including (but not limited to) air search (including passive) and the function of 3D counter-battery radar. Challenge 4: Innovative solutions for minefield breaching We are seeking innovative methods to effect a breach of conventional, deep, extensive and heavily protected minefields quickly, cheaply, and with sufficient regard for personnel protection.
