𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗢𝗕𝗦: 𝗔 𝗚𝗮𝗺𝗲-𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 Early this week, I was searching for a screen recording tool to use. While I knew about Loom, its free version only allows 5 minutes of recording, which wasn’t enough for my needs. I wanted something free, with unlimited recording time, and easy to use. After searching extensively, I stumbled upon OBS Studio through YouTube. It’s an open-source, completely free tool that offers high-quality screen recording and streaming. Intrigued, I decided to learn it—and at midnight on Tuesday (2–5 AM), I figured out how to use it! Eclipsa Audio is still in its early stages, and its success will depend on expanding beyond Samsung’s ecosystem. While its open-source and royalty-free nature makes it an appealing alternative to Dolby Atmos, challenges such as limited platform support and lack of industry-wide adoption remain significant. Currently, YouTube is the only major platform committed to supporting Eclipsa Audio, and Samsung’s 2025 TVs and soundbars are the only confirmed hardware to decode the format. Achieving a clean audio feed during live video production is one of the most critical—and often challenging—tasks. The audio quality can make or break the overall production, yet it's not always straightforward to manage. One common issue is the temptation to input audio directly into the video switcher. However, this can be risky, as it may cause irreversible damage to the switcher—though that's a complex topic for another day. Today, I want to discuss a practical approach to controlling the audio levels as they enter your video switcher. If you’re working with a Blackmagic ATEM switcher, you might think that simply lowering the volume will solve any audio issues. Unfortunately, this isn't always the case. Reducing the volume alone doesn’t necessarily prevent audio distortion, which can severely compromise the clarity and quality of your broadcast. Here’s a tip I’ve found to be effective: Instead of relying solely on the volume faders, focus on adjusting the gain first. I typically reduce the gain to somewhere between -50 and -40, depending on the audio levels I’m receiving from the audio mixer. By doing so, I ensure that the input levels are manageable and less likely to introduce distortion. Then, I leave the faders at 0, which allows for a more stable and clean audio feed. This method has consistently delivered clean audio results in my live productions, and it can help you achieve the same. Remember, managing audio levels effectively is not just about what sounds good—it's about protecting your equipment and ensuring the best possible output for your audience. Investing time in understanding and fine-tuning these settings is crucial.
