Cosco plots colossal $4.5bn order for 120 newbuildings. Fleet renewal plans emerge as China giant responds to ‘structural undersupply of tonnage’. According to TradeWinds, China’s COSCO Shipping Corporation (COSCO Shipping) is planning to build up to 120 new ships worth more than $4.5 billion. Shipbuilding brokers note that the number of ships to be ordered for each ship type has not yet been finalized. However, it has been suggested that COSCO Shipping is considering building 20 Newcastlemax bulk carriers, 40 Kamsarmax bulk carriers and 30 80,000 dwt multi-purpose pulp carriers as well as several VLOCs and bitumen tankers. The ships will be ordered by subsidiaries of COSCO Shipping such as COSCO Shipping Bulk and COSCO Shipping Specialized Carriers.

𝐆𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐤𝐬 𝐩𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐧 𝐌𝐑 𝐧𝐞𝐰𝐛𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝 𝐬𝐥𝐨𝐭𝐬 Greek interest in newbuild MR tanker tonnage continues strong, with fresh orders tipped to be coming from the Vafias family and Monte Nero Maritime. Shipbroking sources report Harry Vafias-backed outfit Brave Maritime securing two newbuilds in a $108m deal recently revealed at Hyundai Mipo Dockyard in South Korea. The Vafias Group’s return to the yard in Ulsan after LPG carrier orders in 2021 has yet to be confirmed. Vafias has mostly focused on the mid-sized gas sector and secondhand bulker deals in recent years. Meanwhile, another Athens-based owner, Monte Nero Maritime, has been linked to an order for four MR2 units at Chinese yard Shandong Huanghai. The price tag of 50,000 dwt newbuilds has not been divulged. Deliveries are starting in 2026 through to 2027. Greece’s Evalend Shipping and Laskaridis Maritime also emerged behind MR tanker orders in South Korea and China this month. Brokers told Splash Evalend had booked 37,000 dwt units at Hyundai Mipo worth more than $190m, while Laskaridis tapped Penglai Zhongbai Jinglu Ship Industry for five MR vessels. The move on MR newbuilds comes amid an increasing age profile in the segment, where a substantial number of tankers are set to cross the 20-year mark. UK shipbroker Gibson noted in its recent report that MRs between 15 and 19 years old account for 30% of the existing fleet, while another 13% are 20 years of age or older. At the end of June, the MR orderbook stood at nearly 230 vessels, or 13% of the existing fleet, according to Gibson.

Discover the key cargo handling terminals in ports: Container Terminals: Efficiently manage loading, unloading, and storage of containerised cargo using large gantry cranes and straddle carriers. Bulk Cargo Terminals: Handle large, unpackaged commodities like coal and grain with conveyor belts and grab cranes, minimising cargo loss. Break Bulk Terminals: Safely handle oversized or awkwardly shaped cargo individually, such as machinery and steel beams, using specialised lifting equipment. Ro-Ro Terminals: Enable quick loading and unloading of vehicles and heavy machinery, reducing port stay times with easy access and efficient traffic flow. Liquid Bulk Terminals: Manage import and export of liquid cargoes like crude oil and LNG, adhering to strict safety and environmental regulations with specialised storage facilities. Multi-purpose Terminals: Versatile terminals accommodating containerised, bulk, and break bulk cargoes, offering flexibility to handle various vessel types and cargo. Understanding these terminals is crucial for efficient trade operations. 𝐃𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐚 𝐒𝐡𝐢𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐬 𝐍𝐘𝐊 𝐋𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐞𝐱𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐭 𝐛𝐮𝐦𝐩𝐞𝐫 𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞 New York-listed Greek bulker owner Diana Shipping has won an extension for the time charter contract with Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK Line) for one of its newcastlemax vessels. NYK Line chartered the 2012-built, 206,104 dwt newcastlemax bulker Los Angeles for a gross charter rate of $28,700, minus a 5% commission paid to third parties, for a period until a minimum of October 1, 2025, up to a maximum of December 15, 2025. The company said that the charter was expected to begin on July 18 in direct continuation of the current charter which is on a day rate of $17,700. The employment of the Los Angeles is anticipated to generate around $12.43m of gross revenue for the minimum scheduled period of the time charter. Upon completion of the previously announced sale of the Houston bulker, Diana Shipping’s fleet will consist of 38 dry bulk vessels – four newcastlemaxes, eight capesizes, five post-panamaxes, six kamsarmaxes, six panamaxes, and nine ultramaxes. The company also expects to take delivery of two methanol dual fuel new-building kamsarmax dry bulk vessels by the second half of 2027 and the first half of 2028, respectively. Currently, the combined carrying capacity of the fleet including the Houston and excluding the two vessels not yet delivered, is approximately 4.4m dwt with a weighted average age of 10.92 years.

Loading in Style! What all do u see? we need see a whole bunch of things when it comes to cargo loading on a vessel, especially considering safe cargo transit on board. - Check of cargo positioning - CG to be slightly ahead of the Axle, enabling the load distribution properly. - Increase friction coefficient by adding Wood or Rubber. - Total Lashing (MSL) to be equal or slightly more than the Cargo weight on each side. And onboard, one needs to ensure - Cargo deck has adequate deck strength - Lashing points are available on deck - Cargo to deck lashings are done - Mafi to deck lashings are done. Do let me know in the comments if you have few other points to consider for cargo loading. #shipping #logistics #maritime #cargo #lashing #supplychain #globaltrade #Roro #mafi #tugmaster #projectcargo

Orders for product-capable vessels (including IMO-class coated vessels) have been soaring, with 293 orders placed until September compared to 292 vessels in 2023. The surge in new orders is driven by the interest in MRs and LRs, while other segments are also registering massive orders. These two segments are the workhorses of the product tanker market, with one optimal for intra-regional trade and the other for long-haul trade. We have analysed the long-term prospects of these two vessel types, read more at: https://lnkd.in/eBewPvrJ #shipping #tankers #fleet #oilandgas #maritimeresearch

𝐑𝐞𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐛𝐨𝐨𝐦 𝐢𝐧 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭 𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐤𝐞𝐫𝐬 Orders for product tankers—including IMO-class coated vessels—are on the rise in 2024 and are forecast to continue into 2025. But with signs of weak long-term demand, what’s driving these new orders in the product tanker market? All thanks to ageing tonnage and the IMO regulation While the supply side looks promising, with many vessels nearing 20 years of service, the demand side shows weak fundamentals in the long run, as gasoline and diesel demand is expected to moderate by the end of the decade. #shipping #tankers #fleet #oilandgas #maritime
