Dr. Disrespect was fired by Midnight Society right after his stream, as he tried to say he was resigning to take a vacation during his stream. So is Twitch going to say anything about the former streamer they banned in 2020 apparently and allegedly over sexting with a minor on their platform? Especially since they appear to have the receipts to all of this? According to both journalists and former staffers. Or is commenting prohibited by the terms of their settlement with him? Beahm did have a lucrative contract that Twitch canceled when they banned him from their platform. This is all kinds of messy for Amazon/Twitch but they would have looked much better if Amazon had stated back in 2020, "we removed a potential predator from our platform after inappropriate behaviour"... AAAAANNNND, "we have turned over logs as needed to law enforcement to see if there is a violation of any US laws." Amazon Twitch terminated his contract and banned him in 2020, but gave no further info. Midnight Society looked into the incident(s) and fired him today. Where there is smoke there is fire. Why wasn't Amazon acting on that back in 2020. The streamer concluded by saying that his "vacation" will be not just from streaming, but from his Midnight Society duties as well. "When I say step away, I think—I mean I'm gonna have to relay this to the Midnight Society, but I, you know—maybe I step away from there too. Just completely remove myself from the scene. Day 3 of excerpts from our recent report looking at the cross-media impact of Amazon's Fallout show. Let's look at some of the challenges involved in game-related adaptations, including issues with scheduling. The chart below shows how games and shows differ, in terms of timings between mainline installments across each medium, and it's quite the difference. It's less of a problem than might first appear, due to the fluid manner in which games can be updated, into spin-offs, expansions, or simply through patching. Nonetheless, it serves as a reminder of how distinct various media industries are, in terms of value propositions, development cycles, localisation extents, and so on. Our full report covers several such challenges, including: 1) Relevance. Established game franchises come prepackaged with vast oceans of lore, much of which was unlikely to have been crafted with non-game audiences in mind. 2) Migration. Put bluntly: Fallout is not an accessible game series. It’s difficult for someone unfamiliar with games to convert from a viewer of the TV series to a consumer of (say) Fallout 4. 3) Action. Games are composed of repetitive activities that may be absorbing for the player but might offer little for many types of viewers. Amazon-owned Twitch.tv has just been fined £250K https://lnkd.in/eeZyRqzb for stopping operations in South Korea. Net/net it boils down to the fact that SK has a weird concept of "Sending Network Party Pays", for internet interconnects in which the originator of the traffic (Netflix, Youtube, Twitch etc.) are deemed to be transacting on the last-mile delivery service ISPs to deliver network traffic, and so they must pay a fee. It made twitch.tv uneconomical to operate there. The 3 dominant ISPs claim cost stress but this https://lnkd.in/eK_dfQKU PDF refutes their arguments very comprehensively. This has led to absurd/perverse situations like Facebook removing their cache/CDN from SK due to cost and instead serving a sub-optimal network hit from HK. SK is home to a MASSIVE amount of e-sports S-tier teams and leagues, and it's also the nation with the highest penetration of gigabit fibre-to-the-home, and since it borders no friendly countries all of its Internet traffic is a long submarine cable away - so that's an odd backdrop to the whole situation. Delivering video content, live sports, or (dear to my heart) virtuals, is about to get a lot more expensive when your audience is in SK.
