We particularly encourage international students to apply. The Cluster explores the dynamics of complex systems, bridging concepts and methodologies for the study of ‘small’ well controlled quantum systems to ever greater length scales and complexity, from large molecules to solid state systems and nano systems. It investigates how new functionalities emerge with the increasing complexity and size of a system and how new functionalities can be generated dynamically. International researchers from different disciplines such as physics, chemistry, and structural biology have joined forces to observe, understand, and control these processes in Hamburg. After the successful Review of the Continuation Proposal in February Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - German Research Foundation decided to extend #RTG2561 for its second funding period on May, 8th, 2024. The second funding period starts on October, 1st, 2024 and lasts until March, 31st, 2029. A budget of more than 4 Mio. Euro for this period was granted. The scope of the RTG relates to the development, characterization and modelling of novel, revolutionary multi-phase composite systems capable of withstanding temperatures substantially beyond 1300°C and harsh environmental conditions as far as mechanical behaviour, environmental resistance and durability are concerned. Still within the first funding period, RTG‘s second PhD cohort has already started in 2023 and RTG’s third PhD cohort will start in 2026. The doctoral students as well as all participating principal investigators from Karlsruher Institut für Technologie (KIT), Technische Universität Darmstadt and Dechema-forschungsinstitut Frankfurt are very grateful to the DFG for this funding and are happy to announce this success. #RTG2561 #DFG #ResearchTrainingGroup #HighTemperatureMaterials

📣 Tomorrow, our #PhD Student Dayrene Frómeta will defend her #Thesis at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid. 💡“Towards practical LiFi networks with hybrid radio-frequency and optical wireless communication technologies" ⭐ This thesis focuses on identifying, investigating, and addressing three main limitations of LiFi systems in a typical indoor scenario. It provides practical solutions to enhance the performance and applicability of LiFi technology in real-world scenarios, addressing critical challenges for its widespread adoption. Researchers from the University of Nottingham have published in Nature describing a new class of magnetism called altermagnetism, and how it has been imaged for the first time in a new study.
