📢 Translational Fidelity during #Bacterial Stresses and Host Interactions 👨🎓 by ZHIHUI LYU, Cierra Wilson, and Jiqiang Ling 🔗 Full article: https://lnkd.in/gHZpN8T3 The authors review their current understanding of how translational fidelity is perturbed by various environmental stresses that bacterial pathogens encounter during host interactions. They discuss how oxidative stress, metabolic stresses, and antibiotics affect various types of translational errors and the resulting effects on stress adaption and fitness. We also discuss the roles of translational fidelity during pathogen–host interactions and the underlying mechanisms. Many of the studies covered in this review will be based on work with #Salmonella enterica and #Escherichia coli, but other #bacterialpathogens will also be discussed. #ribosome #mistranslation

We are pleased to inform you about the special issue "Molecular Understanding of Allergen Exposome". This Special Issue focuses on advancing our molecular understanding of the allergen exposome, the cumulative exposure to allergens, and its impact on health. It aims to explore the interactions between environmental, dietary, and microbial allergens, and their molecular triggers of allergic responses in susceptible individuals. Topics will include the identification of key allergenic molecules, the role of genetic and epigenetic factors in modulating immune responses, and the use of cutting-edge technologies such as multi-omics, molecular imaging, and bioinformatic to profile allergen exposures. We encourage research submissions addressing the development of innovative diagnostic tools, novel therapeutic approaches, and predictive models that assess the risks of allergen exposure, contributing to the prevention and management of allergic diseases. GIP Human studies indicate that the insulinotropic action of GIP is blunted in individuals with severe hyperglycemia, in contrast to the intact action of GLP-1. 7 Recent data shows that GIP is responsible for a substantial portion of postprandial insulin secretion in T2DM and mild hyperglycemia in early disease. 8 GIPR deficiency in mice leads to impaired glucose tolerance with reduced β‐cell function, 9 while GIP overexpression results in improved glucose tolerance, enhanced β‐cell function, and resistance to high‐fat diet‐induced obesity. 10 These hormones seem to work in tandem; GLP-1 inhibits glucagon secretion when plasma glucose concentration is high, while GIP acts at lower glucose levels. 11 Thus, the latter functions as both an ally and a rival in T2DM, depending upon the glucose status, the stage in the natural history of the disease, and the degree of GIP-1 presence in the system.

Recent observations have shown that Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO)affects the host through various mechanisms. While both weight loss and obesity have been reported in the SIBO population due to alterations in the gut microbiome, very little is known about the influence of SIBO type on body composition. This study aimed to evaluate whether there is a link between the three types of SIBO: methane dominant (M+), hydrogen dominant (H+), and methane–hydrogen dominant (H+/M+) and specific anthropometric parameters. This observational study included 67 participants (W = 53, M = 14) with gastrointestinal symptoms and SIBO confirmed by lactulose hydrogen–methane breath tests (LHMBTs) using the QuinTron device. Participants underwent a body composition assessment by Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA) using the InBody Analyzer. In the H+/M+ group, body weight (p = 0.010), BMI (p = 0.001), body fat in kg (p = 0.009), body fat in % (p = 0.040), visceral fat (p = 0.002), and mineral bone content (p = 0.049) showed an inverse correlation with hydrogen (H2) gas production. These findings suggest that body weight, BMI, body fat, and mineral bone content may be inversely linked to the production of hydrogen and the risk of hydrogen–methane SIBO.

💡 Highlighting an Important Step in Addressing Knowledge Gaps in Fournier’s Gangrene 💡 Fournier’s Gangrene (FG) is a rare but life-threatening condition that poses immense challenges in diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis. Our first shared publication, Practice Patterns in Fournier’s Gangrene in Europe and Implications for a Prospective Registry Study (Antibiotics, 2023), explored current practice patterns across Europe and emphasised the urgent need for a standardised approach.  🔍 Key Findings: • Management of FG is highly inconsistent, with significant variations in diagnostic and therapeutic strategies. • The absence of standardized guidelines and robust data has hindered improvements in patient outcomes. • This study underscores the importance of creating a prospective international registry to fill critical knowledge gaps and enable better prediction models and care strategies for FG. Although not a recent publication, the findings remain highly relevant, serving as a cornerstone for our ongoing efforts to establish a European registry for Fournier’s Gangrene! 🎓 Kudos to the project leader Laila Schneidewind for her dedication to advancing research in this challenging area!
